Hello folks I'm seeking advice because I'm planning on purchasing a DVD R for backing up my DVD Movies and PS2 games. Can anyone recommend a good DVD R that is a Sony Brand that can perform the jobs listed above? Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thx again all!

I've got two Sony DRU-510A's. Never had a problem.

I think it will depend on what you plan on doing with the copies. If duplicated and sent out to friends, Ricoh DVD+R style recorders are best compatability with bitsetting mode on to "DVD Rom". They include NEC 1100/1000/1200 or HP models 200i & 300i. There are more.. For burning fast to DVD-R, I like the pioneer DVR-107D. The DVD+Rs made on this pioneer recorder are not very compatable with some older models. And you can't change bitsetting to "DVD Rom" on it.

Stay with the major manufacturers: Pioneer, Sony, or Plexor. Personally, I'd go with the new pioneer A07.

Forget Sony. Either Pioneer, NEC, or Plextor would a good choice.
