Just wondering what the best notebook drive is. I'm building a new notebook and want the drive to be accurate, especially for audio ripping, with good error correction. Buring cd's and DVD Dual Layer is equally important. Good low power consumption is also a plus but not a must

i pay no attention to what make/brand a notebook drive is personally, they're all built far too flimsily for my liking. not sure how long they last, i'll just use a normal desktop burner in a USB2.0 enclosure when my notebook burner packs up.
I know that's not the answer you're after but i'm not sure anyone else will have an answer much different to mine, notebook burners just don't inpsire me with any form of confidence.

Mine manages 8x dvd burns, but i try not to use it often, hopefully it'll last long enough so i don't have to lug an external drive around

That's a good idea actually, thanks. I keep forgetting about all these new external drives that use USB.

I would still like to know if there are better ones than other, if even they all suck....error correction and reliable burns, especially with DVD Dual layer, are my main concerns
