If you just want all-out performance for games, and you don't care about cost, then it is an i7. If you want the best "bang for your buck" in games, you want a quadcore i5. If you want to do video processing, it might be 4 Xeons, if you want a cell phone, it would be something from ARM...for a laptop that lasts all day, maybe an i3 would be the best for battery life. If you want a laptop under $400, AMD is the way to go.
