I have an xbox360 and use it for the media center. I need to find a program to convert my dvd's to mpeg2 since it says it wont play divx or mpeg4 (i have clone dvd mobile to do that).
just tried it and the program makes file that play but the video is screwed up. No picture or colored boxes when trying to play it. Anybody have any other suggestions?
The best program to convert VOB to MPEG-2 is Windows Explorer. VOB files are MPEG-2 files. Every program I have that can read MPEG-2 files can read renamed VOB's. If you already have the DVD on your hard drive just use DVD Shrink to open the files, reathor, and output to a single VOB. Then rename from .VOB to .MPG. You can also remove extra audio and subtitle streams that way. If that doesn't work there's a program called VOB2MPG that should do what you want. You'll still probably want to run the DVD through something like Shrink to remove unwanted streams first.
Well i used the vob2mpg the other day and i thought it worked well until i ran it on the 360 through the media center. The left and right were a little stretched out like looking from a bowl. It looks like there is some conversion in the 360 that I do not want (based on what i have tested). The movie is widescreen, projector is wide, and the 360 is set at wide. When i change the 360 to full it adds the black bars (making the video smaller) but it still has bowl effect. At the moment I can not put the 360 on hd and i an not sure if this may fix the problem. here is what i have tested dvdcomp-works fine),(dvd player-works fine),(360-bowl effect) mpgcomp-works fine),(360-bowl effect) Anyone else have this problem?
