Hi guys, New here and would be obliged if someone could please give me some info. I currently have Sky multiroom with plus. Subscribed to Sports with knowledge pack. Looking to replace with a motorised system but have been told that if I was to move the dish to pickup sports then this would be displayed on both TV's (This is a dealbreaker to she who must be obeyed). What would the best way to allow the same viewing as I currently have (me watching football in the kitchen and the wife/child watching something else in the living room). Don't mind paying for a card to view and would like to have EPL, SPL and Champ league, euroean football. Don't really want to lose the discovery turbo and knowledge channels, etc. I would also like to have HD and maintain the live pause feature (My wife thinks it's a time machine and can fast forward live TV!!! Gotta love blondes!!) I would also like to have access to the greatest number of channels possible that would allow me to watch for free. I know this is long winded and I have probably left out numerous pertinent items. If you need any more info, let me know. Thanks in advance, Offsat
Personally, I would leave your old sky dish where it is and use for FTA for herself and for any other rooms you'd like to feed and then install a motorised dish also which feeds one room only. Such as the one you use to watch footy!! A suitable box will be needed also and an internet feed to new box.
Thanks for the reply! Hmm, interesting proposal. Would this idea work? Run the fixed dish in the living room with the freesat stuff. Run the motorised dish into the kitchen, then on that feed have an output to the living room TV that we could then switch to if there was something we both wanted to see? could a permanent HDMI splitter be used to provide a permanent feed into the living room setup? Now with regards to the motorised system, what would be the best subscrpition package? al jazeera, tring, digitalb? Also, is there a list of what channels are available and on which satellite. I had a look at lyngsat website but couldn't make sense of it at all! Looking mostly for who's broadcasting english speaking stuff. Thanks again, Offsat
tiz sweet that maybe ye still watch some programs together . must be a young relationship . cant you just install a dual or quad lnb on the dish and run the cables to wherever you want. its hard to advise on packages to subscribe to. personally i've found that while i have used different packages i always revert to sky. i hate to admit this but they do have a comprehensive channel line-up
Thought I would add my adive here. Your options are very limited I am afraid, here is the story....there are 3 main Satellites you really only need to move the dish to and from. These are Astra2/Eurobird @28 degrees East (This holds all the Sky platform, BBC, ITV etc), Astra1 @19 degrees East (This holds nearly all Euro platforms such as Canal+, Sky Germany, Spanish and Netherlands TV etc) and lastly Hotbird @13 East (which holds the remaining big european platforms such as Sky Italia, Nova, Polsat etc). There are many many many more Satellites in the sky but these three are the big European 3 so you dont really need to worry about anymore. You have one fixed dish already on the wall pointing to Astra2 which is the Sky/BBC/ITV sat. Herself needs this so therefore if you attach a motor and move to Hotbird or Astra1 with this dish then the Sky channels and BBC etc will go off. So bottom line means putting a motor on this dish is a no no if you dont want to disturb the mrs. This means you would need a secoond dish on the wall with a motor attached but unfortunalty, as far as I know, it is illegal to have more then one sat dish on a dwelling/premises without a particular license. Bookies and pubs obtain a special license (bookies more so) to fix two or more dishes to their premises and this license is expensive. I am open to correction on this. But it could be serious if you are found to have more than one dish on a dwelling, it leaves you open to neighbours reporting it (obscene structure etc etc, you know how neighbours can be) so its a bit of a risk. So in conclusion, yuor options are a little limited without taking a risk. Who knows, maybe you can hide a second dish from sight.
wow, wasn't aware that you are only allowed one dish per dwelling. many houses in the locality have traditional ariel, mmds ariel and sky dish????
Thanks for the replies guys, Wee bit of thinking to do on this one! As for the additional dish, it wouldn't bother me too much. I would happily take it down when the council fix the road outside my house
