Hello, I'm trying to find the best current software to playback BD rips from the HDD, I've been ripping to folders on the HDD and I'm not sure if It would be better to rip to ISO or folder for playback. So far I've been using VLC to playback the main movie, but since I want to keep my BD collection on my PC that is connected to a projector it would better to use the original BD menu from the HDD files. I know PowerDVD 9 wont play back from HDD, so I guess my question is: Is there another software to playback from HDD folders, or I need to convert then to ISO to playback with PowerDVD ? Thanks!
Save in folder format and play with ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre. This is the best media player I have come across for Blu-ray and I have used many of them for years.
But ArcSoft won't allow you to play Dolby sound, without buying the platinum version flat out. Just an FYI. So you're looking at a $89 drop to test it out. If you intend on up-scaling DVD's as well, you'll need to get the SIMHD addon, which is another $10. I was playing around with TotalMedia Theater using My Movies as my catalog & interface, then attempted to stream the movies to my Xbox360. That requires you to donate to My Movies to get the transcode option unlocked. Which is another $40. IMHO fairly heft $ to experiment. On the other hand... XBMC is free and allows you to catalog and play your BD + DVD rips in their native folder content. However... Menu's don't seem to work (I need to try and find a fix for that). But if you're taking just the movie without the menus and extra content, XBMC is amazing. Now if only I could get it to trancode streaming content to my media extender on the 360, I'd be a happy clam.
TVersity may solve this problem for you. I say may, because I don't have an xbox 360 to test it. It's free software, so it's worth a try. Even the Pro version is available as a fully functional download with no time limits (honor system to purchase a license). http://tversity.com/
Rip BD to iso. Load to virtual clone drive (free) with anydvd running in background. http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html Play with powerdvd with full menu access and 7.1 sound. ---Chikn
