Best way to Compress for HDD

    im looking to use my laptop for watching movies while away, what is the best way to compress these files for veiw from either the hard drive or saved on a CD. thanks for all the help. again im not looking to take up a whole lot of space, can i get two divix movies on a single disc maybe with still good picture quality.. thanks for any info..

    Yes Divx is what you want for small files for movies. Your can encode them really small and fit almost three per CD!. You should see:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/
    in the divx section. For small files just decrease the size and resolution.
    My laptop is P4 2.8Ghz with 512 ram and 32Mb video card. So small, CPU entensive Divx play really well. You need to keep your computer in mind when you make Divx, but anything over a P2 laptop, and you should not have problems. My Pentium 200 has problems with a lot of divx files._X_X_X_X_X_[small]I am not a number

    But you want to use XviD to compress , it seems to be the best quality video...
