Ok, I've had a bunch of mp3s around with artist and song name, but missing the album name and artwork. I wanted to correct this and am currently using 'media monkey', however I'm starting to get frustrated with the program as it either has a hard time finding anything or else loves to find the song in a compilation album (I.e 'Greatest Hits', 'Best Of', etc) where I would prefer the song's original album.
I mainly have singles from different albums so was wondering if there was a better program anyone would recommend for what I would like to do thanks. If you could also add what it does better I'd appreciate that too. Thanks in advance.

Not necessarily better, but WinAmp uses GraceNote and 'listens' to the song and finds the best match based on that. As far as the 'Best of' problem, you might just have to manually edit the album field. AllMusic.com is where I'd look for the album title.

The version of MM I have is kind of light in the tag editing area.

You have really not discribed your problem in enough detail to understand your problem. It sounds like you are using a music match process in MM and it is finding a correct match. It just you do not like the match. Remember the 'best ofs' are compilations of other albums. Often the exact tune is on multiple albums; who is to say which album it was actually from, not you. If you ripped it then you would know. For all you, know it DID come from 'the best of', can you prove it came from somewhere else? I would say any correct match is just that, a correct match. I would feel fortunate that I had both the artist and title. If you don't like the album name either get off your ass and check it out on AllMusic.com or maybe you want a more complete search engine. They usually come with a monthly/yearly subscription fee and still don't have everything. They ought to give you a list of albums that tune was on. You get to decide what album name you want to add to it.

Sorry for the aditude but I am a developer and get a bit frustrate with what users expect. They want beyond perfection for free. They expect the computer should read their mind then correct their thoughts if they were confused. When that happens the computers will revolt and kill us off. Why would they need us?

The problem with pulling down single tunes with software any moron can use is morons do use the software. You can't trust that information because morons edit it. If you are going to be that picky (you are being VERY picky) you ought to be doing albums not singles. Then you will know what album the tune was from.

The problem I have with the finding of 'Best of' & 'Greatest Hits' is that if I want to listen to a playlist of say 1990s songs, I don't expect 'Hey Jude' to be bellowing out of my stereo.
And if its too much to ask if there is a program that would at least list a few albums in which a song appears so that I could pick which I want that song to be associated with than so be it. And yes, i could "get off [my] ass and check it out on AllMusic.com", but my time is more important than that hence the query if there was a better automated program
And yes, the winamp dd much better then MM, thank you olyteddy.

I have always found that Windows Media Player works the best for me. It will give you all your choices to choose from & will download CD art automatically. This is the only thing I use WMP for. I then use Winamp for playing my files.

WMP 11 is my choice for tagging also. The album choices are easily available.

rmb3, pardon my rudeness I must have gotten my period yesterday!

Well, this old dog should update more often. Either I am missing out or I play more obscure music than you all do. I actually do pay for a service that I can only use while I rip. Most of what I rip is not in freeDB.
