If i were to install a bigger hard drive would i need to transfer over any pre-existing files that came with the original hard drive? Also could any one recommend a cheap locked one that can hold quite a feew games

this is what i did yesterday and worked for me.
matrix chip on a v1 xbox. large harddrive with no ftp'ing. ran slayers auto install 2.1
it installed all the aps that i think you would possibly need.

if you want to keep files on your original hdd.
then i do not know how to go about it.

i used a maxtor 120 gb hdd. i dont play xbox live. so i did not lock the hdd. i made a back up of a game to the hdd to test it. all systems go.

good luck it seem overwhelming at first. but after months of research. and the proper tools, im up and running.

    wassup..

    1. i used a 40GB maxtor 5400rpm, ata100 HD in my xbox. it works fine, i didn't lock it either. (matrix mod chip, evox d6eject fix bios, newest evolution x dashboard) I can fit probably about 10 to 15 games (depending on size).

    2. To keep your original hd intact, i would recommend creating your own evolution x hd install bootdisc (check out this link for info: http://www.geocities.com/seamonkeyguides/xboxhd.htm )
ALSO!!! be sure to do a backup via evolution x dashboard and then copy your c and e drives to your pc (you'll need them later and JUST IN CASE anything goes wrong)

boot the xbox with the bootdisc, then format the new hd with the cd-rw, you'lll need to copy the files from the original hd back to the new one and then your good to go!

    good luck!
    peace
