i authored a dvd using ifo edit and wenever i play it on a dvd player, the subtitles are pitch black, but if i play it on my pc, its white. any suggestions?
You may be seeing different colours, because your media player is selecting the VOB and not the information in the IFO (which the standalone is using). The subs colour can be set using 'DVD SubEdit'. If you use the program, you should work on a copy of the 'VIDEO_TS' folder. When loading the video, use 'File' 'Open full domain'. Select the sub stream that is to be edited ( right panel, 'Subpic selection' drop down menu). Note carefully how to save the edited settings for the entire stream - not just the one you are looking at on the screen. The settings I used for my example were p-b-e1 black:e2 yellow. Each of these also has a setting for 'transparency'.I used clear, clear, opaque, opaque. When saving the change, they are made instantly - no recoding. If you use a media player like VLC and browse it to the 'Directory' (not a VOB)then you will see the new colours after you select the subs. If you simply click on a VOB to play back - you get default colours. http://download.videohelp.com/DVDSubEdit/Guides/ChangingColors/Guide.htm
