Norton's saying I have Bloodhound.w32.ep virus. Which from what I've read could be any variety of viruses since Norton uses the name 'bloodhound' for any virus it doesn't recognise..

I ran Norton in safe mode over night and it said the infected file: wininet.dll couldn't be deleted.

I've lost access to IE as well and had no other browser installed. I need to get online to try & download AVG or update my out-of-date Norton definitions.

Anyone know how I can get online if IE isn't working? Found one site that recommended using Ctrl-Alt-Delete and ending process on 'SCVhost.exe' and any other unneccesary processes. And to delete 'scvhost.exe from the registry. Safe to try? Thanks!

As the usual recommendation lists, use the following and run them on safe mode.

    CCleaner (free)
    Spybot Search & Destroy (free)
Ad-Aware SE Personal (free - from LavaSoft)
    CWShredder (free)
    Microsoft AntiSpyware (free)
    AVG Free Edition (free)
HiJackThis (this is a very useful tool, but be careful of what you delete that's all)

SyGate Personal Firewall (free - this is a very good firewall, it monitors both outgoing and incoming traffic)

And of course any of your desire AntiVirus such as Norton or McAfee
