I have been backing up my BD on my comp for about a month now (with AnyDVD HD), and watched a few from the hard drive (I prefer not having to bring out my disc) but I have also ran into some problems where I cannot read the .m2ts files. I have the PowerDVD Ultra (7.3) and VLC player, which together plays most Blu-ray films except the more recent releases. PowerDVD will simply lock up (Prohibiting getting to the menu or skipping ahead to the movie, etc) and VLC player will say "can't read source files". I'm wondering - are there any other players that will support Blu-ray rips from the disc (.m2ts not ISO)? Thanks for your help.
The latest PowerDVD updates restrict the codecs to third party apps, like VLC, Mediaportal, etc. This may be the issue. Not sure why you can't access them from the PowerDVD player, though. The simplest method might to just remux the *.m2ts file using TSMuxer. This will (should) allow full playback using the correct audio track. I encountered a number of BD movies a while back that read from the first audio track with no ability to change it even it if was the incorrect language. The file size will remain around the same as the original *.m2ts file. Can't remember what I did, if anything about subs, though. I transcode my BDs to *.mkv. But there might an ability for it to directly mux the *.sup file(s) into the remux.
