Well, i changed the mobo on my computer, and i get a blue screen right when xp loads, then restart. Ive seen this happen alot especially with new major hardware replacement. But I want to keep the info on this computer and dont want to format. It is originally a gateway computer. It is running on Windows Media Center, but I do not have that disk, i dont think it even came with a windows disk. I do however have Windows XP Disk, i dont wanna download it illegally. I can't repair Windows Media Center with XP Pro. I also dont want to buy vista, is there a way to fix this? Safe mode works!

whenever you use a hard drive from a different motherboard, windows will go crazy, and not boot 99% of the time, because there are too many changes. you have to do a clean install with the new motherboard.

you can get another hard drive to use for the new motherboard, and install winXP on it; or try finding someone that has winMCE install cd.

any files you want to keep should be stored on a external for safe keeping. that way you'll be able to transfer it between the two.

yea, i have different hard drives, but there are games, and other prorams that i would have to backup including the registery files n that will drive me crazy. I've talked to a few ppl n they have some weird format cd that came with their computers. It was some Norton Ghost thing that formats the whole PC and put the files in or soemthing like that. so idk. I just hope that there is a way to fix it by replacing a few files but i doubt it too...
    thx for the reply

norton ghost basically copies the entire hard drive. but i don't think it will do any good because you're still using a new mobo, and the hard drive is setup for the old mobo.

you could setup the hard drive as a slave, and get the files from it, but that would still require a second hard drive with a OS on it.

Yea, but that norton ghost isnt even mine so it wont work at all. Is there a way to backup the game n prog thoug, cause i would need the registery file? This is weird, windows dont work when mobo is changed (this is the same brand running on amd, of course there is different drivers and stuff, i understand that) But it works fine on my P4 Intel. haha, i am going crazy.

i'd wait and have someone else get in on this, because i'm pretty much stuck on that.

if your games and programs came in a zip/rar or installer, you can just copy that. but if you installed from a cd, then you pretty much need the disc again. the other option would be torrents, but that's completely your choice.

I doubt anyone could help me on this problem anyway. But to update, i got my hands on a retail 2 disk mce and the repair option was available, it deletes the drivers and install the setup files, then when it reboot, back to windows install the blue screen poped up again with the same error message as last time. With the STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xB9C5C750, 0xBA4DF430, 0xBA4DF12C) So im not sure what else i could do to recover games/registery file, safe mode now doesnt work anymore saying that it cant work during windows repair/update.

Edit: Fixed with SYSPrep from anoehr mobo that boots up the hdd.
