Book Type problems with Lite-On

I recently replaced my Lite-On external DVD writer 1693S with a 1673S due to power calibration errors. I am using Nero 6 to burn. With the 1693S Nero set the book type to DVD-ROM so that I could play all burned DVD's on several players. With the 1673S Nero just burns the DVD with no change in book type. I have looked through the Nero site and the Lite-On site to see if there were any instructions on how to change the book type but I did not find any. Can anyone tell me if there is a setting within Nero to change the type? Thanks in advance.

 

You can only booktype DVD+R(W) media. Are you using DVD-R by any chance? Here you can also read how to booktype with DVDD

Maybe it is the type of burner that I bought, but when I click on the recorder, then the Options tab, there is no option to set the booktype. Maybe I should just return the Lite-On and get another brand.

Thanks for all the help. I read all the links, but I cannot find a place to download the utility 1.35. I have Googled and Yahoo'd, but all I get are forums, no download.

 

@heelfan, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but these discs are probably the worst ones you can choose.

It is the one disc that seems to cause the most problems and therefore are NOT the recommended disc.
Try using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, if you continue to use Memorex then it wont be long before you're back here with problems.

Memorex (CMC Mag) is one of the worse possible. But I don't know if that would really influence the booktype capabilities of your drive.

Thanks, again, but it did not work. The option to change the book type was greyed out. I think I am just going to return the burner and get an HP or a Sony. I appreciate all your help.

 

before you return it, if that is what you want, make sure you do your homework and het one that booktypes. What is the current firmware of your drive?
I have a Nec with a Liggy modified firmware and works great.

 

I have the 1673 burner. It booktypes to -Rom with no problems. I'm guessing it's your blank discs. I only use Verbatims or TY's. I have no issues with the burner (or discs for that matter), and it's probably the best 50 bucks i've spent on computer hardware.

 

Although you burner is new it may not have the latest firmware, the latest for that model is KSOB, you can go here for update if that is necessary.

Recently i haven't been able to burn dvds to dvd+r. I was using imation dvd+r and they were all working out fine, then i switched to Logik 8x dvd+r (spindel of 50). I've been burning coasters ever since.
I have a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S recorder. Because i was having trouble with burning to +r i thought i wasn't bookmarking them correctly. I been burning to dvd-r fine.
I checked nero 7, there is no option for booktyping on my recorder.
Why is there no option?
Why was i able to burn dvd+r without any trouble before?
Could this be a hidden feature in my drive(booktyping)?
Or could all my problems be down to bad media?

I have never heard of this brand of disc so cannot comment on their quality, if you have a copy of DVD Decrypter you can also booktype using that, available at bbmayo site in my sig.

Its a playback issue because it completes the burning succesfully. Does this change anything?
What should i do with this crappy spindle now? frisbys?
I knew memorex was bad but i didn't know that Logik was related to it.

Now i have another problem with the firmware update. i tried to update and an error occured. The firmware update doesn't match my drive. The update is for LITE-ON SOHW-1633S but the message says i have LITE-ON SOHW-1633S BGS4, What is the BGS4 about?
