I was wondering if anyone knows if the internal dvd burner in the Apple Quads can do booktyping? I am not even sure what drive they put in this thing. When I get system info it says that the dvd drive is: HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA4165B? I have no ideas what that is.
I am trying to makes some back up dvd's using Mactheripper and DVD Imager. I was told that I need to use a dvd burner that allows booktyping in order to get teh burned dvd's to play back on a home dvd player. I have had some luck using a Sony DRX-710UL DVD external burner which is connected to another computer, but I would like to be able to so this on my Quad.

you dont need to booktype for dvd players to read them. you can use the dvd-r format and they should play fine.

i'm not seeing anything on that burner.. i will check the apple boards.
if you have (+) format.. just burn that with the quad.. and when you pop it back in.. see what the icon for the dvd says..

if it booktyped it will show you what the regular retail dvds show up as.. and you're set if it does.

I know in the past that after I had burned a DVD-DL using Toast 6, that it would not play back on my home dvd player. I was told that I needed to use booktyping in order to get it to play back properly on my home player, and they recomended usng DVD Imager and then burn using the Disk Utility. I was told that my external dvd buner allowed booktyping. To be honest, I am not exactly sure what booktyping even is. I all know is that after I followed the instrucions above it worked. I just did want to make a $5 toaster trying to use my new internal dvd burner.

I am using the drive that came with my Quad G5. When I get system info all it says is "HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA4165B". So I am not sure what type of drive this is.
