Booting XP from firewire or USB 2.0

    Hello. I have tried booting my old desktop PC from an external drive but it doesn't seem to handle it (year 2000 model). I am buying a new PC soon and it won't have an internal DVD/CD drive at first (it's a long story). Anyway, I have both an external DVD drive and an external HD both connected through firewire (USB 2.0 is also a possibility), so will I be able to boot XP Windows from an external drive with a new 2005 model desktop? Thanks...

    depends if the bios supports external boot drives but probably will. can ask the place you are getting computer from if it does boot from external
