I am not sure if this is the right place to post. I received a Dell computer and installed two new burners. Pioneer and NEC. I tried Nero, Alcohol 120%, and Clonecd but both burners only burn at 1.3X. I used Verbatim DVDs. I tried both in my old Gateway, I both burned faster. Also, The Dell computer did not come with a floppy drive so I installed a new one and the computer does not recognize nor give me the A drive icon to click on. Help. Thanks.

What are the drives models and do you have the most recent firmware for each one? What kind of verbatims are they 8X or 16X? If you have older drives with older firmware there might be compatability issues witht the media since the burner might not know how to burn media newer than it's firmware.

Both burner are about a week old. The pioneer is 111D and I don't know what the model is for the NEC. I have not changed either firmwares on the burners. The verbatim discs are 8x and 16x.

Find out what model NEC burner you have then go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php and update your firmware for both drives and try burning again. Also are your drives hooked up as Master/slave or cable select? I had problems once with cable select so I did master/slave. Seeing that you have a pioneer 111D I'm assuming you will be backing up your console games, so you mght want to make the pioneer the slave and have NEC be the master (as the NEC will be used more and you dont want the poineer to rack up unnecessary milage.) If you still have problems after that let us know.

If anyone else has this problem, this is how I finally got the burners to work. I just reinstalled windows xp and all is well.
