Poor results there, and I must say I'm quite surprised. Litey need to take a good look at their compatibility with TY discs because I've noticed this problem with their other drives as well.
I have upgraded the firmware to XS0U. It is now possible to burn the 16x TY disks in 16x speed without "Damaged" sectors. However, the disk will form a weave pattern. As a result, I will burn these disks at 12x.
It seems that Taiyo Yuden are packaged/distributed by other companies. Would you tell me what are the packager/distributors of Taiyo Yuden ? I just can't find them .... Thank you very much.
In the US, all Fujifilm CD-Rs are made by Taiyo Yuden so far. Memorex (32X and 40X) and TDK (32X only) also have some of their CD-Rs made by TY, as long as they are made in Japan. If you can still find the HP CD-Rs at Sears, they are probably made by TY, although rated at lower speed.

Bad news.... The new firmware has not improved its compatibility of the old TY media. I have bought some Yamaha 20x (TY) but my Lite-on supports 16x onlu w/ smartburn enabled. I just bought 300 (three, 100-unit spindle packs) of the Taiyo Yuden discs from a local computer shop for $39.88 Canadian each ($25.19 US; 16-1/4 UK pounds), which is (of course) .40c each Canadian, or .25c American, or 16 pence, UK. The ATIP is (precisely) identical to the first ATIP reading given by nose above, i.e.: ATIP: 97m 24s 01f Disc Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden Company Ltd. Recording Layer: Dye (Long strategy; e.g. Cyanine Azo, etc.) Media Type: CD-Recordable Nominal Capacity: 702.83 MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849 Recording Speeds: min. unknown, max: unknown Light blue/aqua, clear unmarked silver tops, no buff protection, 80-min/700 MB. Absolutely no markings on outside plastic spindle. (No-name; generic). I have to admit, not one of these discs has failed me, after about 30 burns'-worth. I'm using a Panasonic cdrw. True, I've only used them at either 2x or 4x speed (for VideoCDs), but also, no problems with data or music discs at 8x speed. -- Mike --
At a private computer supply/repair shop, locally. 'PC Medic' Robie Street, Halifax Nova Scotia They also have a branch (retail) store over in Burnside, Dartmouth. I can get the exact address and phone number for you if you live nearby. The discs work wonderfully for me, not one coaster in the lot. These spindle packs sell awfully quickly, so you have to scoop 'em up while they're available. The guy at the (Halifax) counter said they often have a hard time keeping up with demand, but they've just ordered-in a whole new supply. (You just have to treat them with care; there's no buff-protection on the top). Since my last post, I'm now into my second spindle-pack. (I'm doing a *lot* of backups). Hope this helps. -- Klingy --
