Brightness

    Is there a way change the contrast and or brightness of a video file I have. I don't just want to see it lighter when playing but rather change the file.

    Sure. Generally involves re-encoding though. If it is MPEG-2 you can adjust the brightness without re-encoding. Same thing should I guess be possible with other format, just that there aren't any tools available.

    Check out AVISynth (levels, tweak, etc.).
