Hope I'm in the right place. If not I apolagize. Moving to the UK in late November. Can anyone suggest a decent broadband ISP? Thanx
well it all depends on where you are going to move to, like if you move into London then you will find many great ISP's offering stable broadband at low prices, and I mean low. At the moment I am with Tiscali, because they are cheap. I get a normal nice, broadband connection, and it is stable, they have a great customer support system and realy are friendly at the call centres, but hey I guess they have to be. So mostly it could be a matter of opinion which one is good Just ask some of your friends at decide for yourself.
wjhat ever you do dont get ntl i did once and like every 2 days it broke down i had to phone up and be waiting hours to fix it so anoying so i moved to aol and not a had no problems now been about 3 years perfect internet and becuase i been with them so long i got my monthly bill tooked down by £16
i use NTL/Telewest and they're 100% faultless so far. AOL are being bought by Carphone Warehouse but i believe they aim to keep AOL as is..
NTL halved our bill as we were (trying to) move to another provider mentioned in this thread (who couldn't and still can't blummin' deliver after many months - the li'l rotters keep saying the service is activated, but pah!, not as far as my router is concerned). in fact the supplied plastic joke i mean modem flatly denies that there's a connection either. that other provider shall remain nameless, if only because i'm one of a couple hundred thousand poor unfortunates who were stupid enough to sign up for their alleged service. but my point is that Telewest are excellent and even made concessions to keep a customer. there's still room for competition out there so keep shopping around and you might find a cheaper/better deal.
@creaky There was a similar incident that happened with Carphone Warehouse's Talk Talk free broadband 'FOREVER' claim, and promotion. Turns out to be a big mess, they got pounced on by the advertising agency about their 'free forever' claims, as they said it was misleading, because it was not forever but only for 18 months, and so they had to stop making the forever claims in their adds. Talk Talk also failed to provide the majority of their customers with modems and a valid connection. They took up to three hours to pick up some calls made to their call centers and when they did pick up they would give reassuring words to the customer then say "we will call back in three days" and you would never hear from them again. Kind Regards, BluRay.
I'm with Talk Talk and i moved to them from Bulldog. only got their modem afte moaning at them (just as well i have a router or i would have been screwed. Promised up to 8 meg but if i have seen 1 meg i will hav been lucky. They are (allegedly) upgrading equipment so i may see "Up 2 8 meg" in the future. when this will be is anyones guess. can't really complain as i am a cheapskate
@ktulu whether your a cheapskape or not, I hate getting ripped off, and that my friend is whats happening to you! BULLDOG BROADBAND Do not bother with them, there has been more than enough complaints on on the BBC's Watchdog last year, too dub them as a company that is purely cr@p. My Arabic teacher went with them, and he was stuck, paying who knows how much a month, and not getting any service, they barded his phoneline from calling numbers of other ISP companies and did give him a refund they did not give him his 8meg connection, he got no connection at all, and they would not let him leave the company even if he was prepared to go without a refund, they had him in this tight spot for about five months. Recommended ISP's by Me feel free to disagree, anyone Telewest/Blueyonda NTl Tiscali. ##################################################################### But for the love of God, do not get a company who's name begins with B and T (I aint saying clearly who, BuT it is obvious, who I am mentioning) Kind Regards, BluRay.
never ever ever get BULLDOG BROADBAND first of all you call them to ask about it for more infomation and huess what there always busy phone lines take you about 2 hours waiting in line on the phone next if you got it and it broke down you need to phone them and if you cant even get thougth to get more infomation your be hours on end to fix it or just to be told phone this number instead then your waiting again next i heard there crap and break down alot so never ever BULLDOG BROADBAND
Bulldog Broadband is bad. @Swords, you have GOT to change your userbars, in terms of size, they all addd upto a total of 1.12 MB, change it before a Mod gets on your case.
i moved FROM bulldog (never to return). I agree their customer service was s**t, but i only ever had 2 occasions in almost 3 years that i suffered a loss of service (and it was a nationwide loss of service not just me). I am reserving judgemnet on talk talk until i have been with them for a while to see what happens. believe me if i need to move to a new ISP i will do, but at the moment as long as it works it will do me. i will move if the speed does not increase but as they promise UP to 8meg I am not in a position to complain too loudly (just yet). I also agree the B and T company are rip off merchants
Wow! Lost of good input. I'll probably be looking for ISP/Tele/Phone package. Every one's been very helpful Thanx
