Hey guys, i just joined up with BT total broadband & have been getting endless problems. Sometimes i end up with no internet connection & the home hub resets itself. Im using Utorrent & have been getting very slow speeds. I choose option 3 when i signed upto BT, but according to some speed tests it says 3mb... I also cant connect using limewire anymore as it keeps saying its blocked by a firewall. I set up exceptions for it in windows firewalll & in the home hub, & tried various ports, but still no limewire. Any help would be much appreciated. P.S, i wasnt sure where to put this so stuck it in the general section
arrrr, someone else with the same problems as me, i was talking to a m8 last night about Bt Broadband and he told me to uninstall everything to do with BT and download my own Security software and it would do the trick, im ongoing with this now but i think it is working my pc has speeded up a little as for downloading files i havnt tried this yet but i will after i have done a reboot, my biggest advice thou is get rid of the Norton its rubbish and its made my Pc run very slow
I didnt install Norton as it seems to be a 30 day free trial even though i was told it was the full program.... Im unsure of what to uninstall regarding BT, I was thinking of just keeping the BT home hub manager & get rid of the rest as i dont use the softphone thing (got a home hub phone) or bt yahoo broadband (i use internet explorer). Any idea of decent Antivirus/AntiSpyware?? Im using Spyware Doctor & Avast Antivirus with Windows Firewall. As for the Limewire thing i got it sorted.. When i try & open the home hub it says unable to connect & i end up with no internet even though Utorrent still downloads??? Anyway, thanks & let me know how you get on.
Well ive have rebooted my pc and it has deffo speeded up but my downloads are still very slow im downloading at 12.6 kbs which i think is rubbish (any one think this is good?) im just wondering how i can speed my downloads up do you know? might plug in my old router what i had when i was on virgin had no probs at all with them think i should of stayed with um to be honest lol
What bittorrent client are you using for your downloads? Im currently using Utorrent & sometimes i get low download speeds (0.5kb/s) & sometimes really high speeds (150 - 200 kb/s). There are quite a lot of tweaks you can use to increase speeds for utorrent & i found a program on the net that opens the max connections Utorrent can make.. The problem now is it goes too fast & my hard drive cant keep up with the fast download speeds & Utorrent kept saying Disk Overload 100%, but i eventually got that sorted.. I was thinking of trying Bitcomet as ive been told thats even faster that Utorrent.. Here is Afterdawns own guide to increasing speeds with Utorrent:- http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/utorrent_guide.cfm
I also use Bit torrent, but ive just had an email from bt saying this so i think im getting somewhere have checked the records and found that your broadband account has been upgraded to 'BT Total Broadband Option 3' on 12th November 2007. Our engineers will test the line during the first ten days from the date of activation. As a result you may experience a variation in the speed. This period is called the optimisation period; the speed depends on the capacity of the local exchange and the telephone line. Hence, please turn on the router/hub and browse for the maximum duration during this period. After the optimisation period, you will able to get the standard speed and can see the difference in the speed once the process is completed. I appreciate your patience and understanding in this regard.
