Hey I've been thinking of building a hackintosh. I want to build one that is equivalent to a mac mini. I know there are lots of guides out there for this but because i live in Australia i cant use new egg and i cant find some of the parts that i would need. I've found this website www.mwave.com.au which seems to be the best website for pc parts in Australia. So i was just wondering if someone would be able to put together a list of parts that i would be able to get from this site or another australian. Thankyou for any help in advance
It is hard to equal a mac mini...the parts are so old that you can't get them anymore, except in economy laptops. Here is a build that is equal to or better than the best mac-mini-server in every way: http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...LUITKN5WUQ31HVDHFMOYEFLSO9KWBOKD&SKU=10170051 http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...LUITKN5WUQ31HVDHFMOYEFLSO9KWBOKD&SKU=16010910 http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...LUITKN5WUQ31HVDHFMOYEFLSO9KWBOKD&SKU=17040310 http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...LUITKN5WUQ31HVDHFMOYEFLSO9KWBOKD&SKU=19010169 http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...LUITKN5WUQ31HVDHFMOYEFLSO9KWBOKD&SKU=22040334 http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...LUITKN5WUQ31HVDHFMOYEFLSO9KWBOKD&SKU=28023027 http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...LUITKN5WUQ31HVDHFMOYEFLSO9KWBOKD&SKU=34040449 http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...LUITKN5WUQ31HVDHFMOYEFLSO9KWBOKD&SKU=37060518 http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...LUITKN5WUQ31HVDHFMOYEFLSO9KWBOKD&SKU=42022409
BTW...this build includes a firewire card and a video card. There is onboard video, so you could remove both of these if you just want to use it as a server. It also has a 1TB hard drive; I chose this because the best mac-mini-server is a 1TB system. However, you could replace this with a smaller or a larger drive depending on your needs; this setup will easily support three 2TB drives for a total of 6TB.
[edit] I just looked at apple's website and found something rather incredible...they charge $500 extra for remote desktop...something that has been a free feature with windows for years. So much for Apple having better software; it does not even include standard features from a 3-generation old microsoft OS!
Hey Thanks again for all your help though i was just wondering if i could use the Gigabyte GZ-M2 Mini Tower Case as it has its own 420w power supply witch i found would be cheaper than buying the power supply and the tower separately. Also this will be the first computer that i have built and i was just wondering if it is fairly straight forward. Plus would i be able to use this wireless pci adapter http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...CGLEZ6658OTXJSR3572JTOE12HZ3DB7H&sku=46060049 Thanks again
Some advice is to stay away from any PSU that comes with a case. Those are horrible and you're better off throwing them away. I'm sure Killer knows about that too hehe.
Yeah...most PSUs are junk, and the ones that come with economy cases are the worst of a bad lot. Corsair makes the best power supplies in the industry...that is why they can charge more for a power supply than Gigabyte charges for a power supply and a case. As for the wifi adapter, you do have an extra space for it...I'm just not sure if it has MAC drivers available. Come to think of it, I'm not 100% sure the firewire adapter I posted is compatable, but it should be since it requires no drivers on windows or linux.
Ok. I think i will stick with that case just the one without the PSU. Plus will it be easy to build and would someone be able to suggest a good up to date guide. Thanks for all the help
