As I have stated in the topic title I am trying to build a PC for the first time and I was wondering if the parts I selected had any compatibility issues or were just bad in general. MOBO= GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059 CPU= Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037 PSU= Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 650W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371001 Case= Antec 900 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021 Thanks for the help. Hard drive= http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148262 (I can care less about this because I already have 2 externals) Memory= Corsair Dominator 4GB DDR2 1066 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145197 Video Card= EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318 Sound Card (I don't know which one is good) I also have a limit of around $800. However this current build is nearing $900 so I'm considering switching out my memory with Corsair 4GB DDR2 800. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184
Most of the components are decent, but this is a much better PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001 Yes, it's more expensive for less wattage, but your PC will actually only use about 250W, it's not the wattage that matters, it's the quality. Also, don't use EVGA for graphics, use XFX or BFG instead, so this for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150252 I usually recommend this sound card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102003 cheap but effective.
Interesting, I didn't know that ><. Alright this is my last question (hopefully) I decided to switch my memory due to budget but I can't decide whether to go CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145194 OR CORSAIR 4GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184 Thanks for the help again.
I thought I'd drop in and leave an opinion even though I can't really be as technical as the veterans in this thread, yet. I actualy ran the CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (1x4GB)from my older brothers system on minea few days ago (because of Vista nightmares), and they seemed fine. No problems whatsoever.
Alright I am pretty much set on what parts to buy now except for the case. I realize the case is probably the last thing you need to worry about and just about any of them will work, but my brother and I are debating over which one to get right now. Raidmax Smilodon http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156063 COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119137 It would be helpful if you guys can pick one and tell me why you chose it. Or if you have a better case (midtower) feel free to link me to it (but try to keep the price range under 100).
In general, Coolermaster cases are universally streets ahead of Raidmax cases in cooling, build quality and so on. One of our members however wasn't so impressed with the RC-690, despite the fact that several other users here own the case and are satisfied. The general opinion however is that the original case like you pointed out is poor for cooling, you need to get this version instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156078
I guess I will go for the coolmaster then. Sammorris I just noticed this website http://www.ncixus.com in your signature and I wanted to know is it a good site to buy from? Because I found a few parts that are cheaper there compared to newegg.
Absolutely - I don't live in the US so I haven;t used them myself but I hear nothing but positives about them.
I heard that the fans on the 8800 video cards suck and has heating issues. Is this true? And if it is, what is a good fan to buy to replace it? The video card I am getting is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150252
The older 8800GT cooler didn't work well enough - the new one is supposed to be alright though. If you're not convinced, by a Thermalright HR-03GT.
mate, seeing as that 8800GT is 189.99 add the extra 10 to get a superbly faster 4850 : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161235
