I wasnt sure what thread I should post this in, but the description of the area sounded right. What I have is an older Megatouch-type machine like you'd see in a bar room. It's actually a Silverball game, but they use some of the same parts. The problem I'm having is that when turned on(once in awhile and progressively worse, now completely) you can hear the HD start to boot up(and another has been tried that sounds like it doesn't stop, but same problem), but the screen just looks as if it only turns on and is black with the gray haze over it. I don't get the startup sound either. What do you think the problem could be? The inside is basically a computer, but it does have a touchscreen. I know nothing about computers, but if it's in common, could it be a power supply issue or a mother board? Any help appreciated as always! -TD-
It's a failed POST on the PC inside, which could be all manner of things, faulty CPU, faulty graphics adapter (probably integrated into the motherboard, but not guaranteed), dodgy memory, failed power supply (on one of the rails). Motherboard and memory is where I'd look first.
I'm certainly no computer guru, but always willing to learn. just how do I go about testing said items? I thought video card, but why would the sound also go out....that got me thinking power supply.
If any part of a PC fails it can prevent the entire system from doing anything at all, which is why so many of the components are suspect. All I can suggest is to try swapping them out with compatible other parts, but for a machine like that, not sure how easy that'll be.
I just set down my laptop, and when i cked it back up, my mouse must've been over the close tab and I hit button and lost response. I was describing where each card and cable went on this pic: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=140259633177 The one with the blue connector goes to that black cable in the pic which leads to the power supply. Nothing connects on the outside of the 2 to the left except the top of the 2nd one in-goes to the touchscreen interface.. The far right is the audio and a joystick connection. The 2nd from the right i think all the wires in the gray cables go up to the coin/cash slots. Is there really no other way than swapping?
I was wrong. The big black cable goes to the to the monitor board. The connector had another black wire that also goes to the monitor board and is covering a shielding wire which covers more wires. I'm going to locate swap parts i guess.
I tried the HDD on the other connector of the IDE cable and it works! However, it did say insert disc to continue, so the drive wasn't working at the time. I put in the other one I have and now it's good! =) The last problem I have is with the screen adjustment. I can easily adjust the screen from fat to thin, tall and short, and L/R. I am not sure how to get the whole screen to fit into the "box". I cannot see whole words along all the edges. Any idea how to adjust that on a tube monitor? I figured there must be a depth adjustment for the tube section, but can't decide which rind to turn, and they do move hard....if i'm doing the right thing
That's fair enough, dodgy IDE Cables can hang systems too. CRT monitors usually have a set of dials to adjust the picture: Brightness, Contrast, Vertical position, Vertical Size, Horizontal position, Horizontal size, pincushion, trapezoid, moire reduction and a degauss button.
For the vertical, horizontal, left, right, stretch vert/horiz, there are dials to turn-resistances I believe. The adjustment rings I found on the back would un-align the colors so that i would see 3 of the words and other objects. There must be some way to adjust the depth where the tube shows the pic on the lense; atleast I think that would do the trick.... BTW-do you think a HDD from a Megatouch would work in this? Just wondering because I know they have some newer games that I played before and wouldn't mind having.
well, my one uncle's has played with tv's/electronics since he was about 10, so i just sent it over there. I'll report any findings. Thanks!
