I have been burning at 1x and 2x for about a year, I have had very few problems, now I phurchased some ritek 4x. the reason I did this is to try to speded up the process and have the option of 1x, 2x, or 4x in Nero 6.0The first time I tried the 4x media, nereo said it was buring at 4x but it took longer than at 2x, (3o min vs 35 min)normally I use decryptor and dvd2one and then burn with Nero 6 express.I use a sony dru 500a with firmware 2.0e. My questios are as follows how do I know that the disc's I bought are 4x? it does say ritek but nothing else on the disc hardware is intel mobo p4 1.8ghz dma mode set 256mb mem. I guess what I am asking is am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the disc or my settings, any response will be appreciated rag tag 49
You should try upgrading the firmware for the Sony burner. Have a look here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread/t-76841.html
did you know if you used a 80ribbon cable or a 40ribbon cable to connect your dvd burner? I had similiar problem burning at 4x and realized I used a 40 ribbon cable from my cd-rom to connect to my drive...the data was getting jammed and not flowing fast enough to burn at 4x. Hope that helps mike
billmex, 1. Ritek prints X4 on their 4 speed media. 2. You might be able to get away with a 1.8Ghz processor but with 256MB RAM you're not packing enough memory to get to 4X. 3. You'll also have to shut down all of your programs running in the background. Burning requires a maximum amount of resources. Running at a lower probably means that you aren't able to stream the info to the burner fast enough' It might be your IDE cable, media processor, memory etc. I burn at 4X but suffer increased errors as a results. I know how you feel, you have a burner with a firmware update or a new 4x burner, now you want to test drive it - Good Luck, "P"_X_X_X_X_X_[small] The “old man” Pete (ö¿ô) Compaq 8000, Pent 4 CPU 2.80GHz, 1GB RAM. 340GB HD, 7200 (Maxtor 120, Western 200 & 20. 4 Drives, JLMS DVD ROM, HP DVD Writer 200j, Nec 4X DVD RW ND-1300A & AXV CD/DVD-ROM. Burning at 4x is not limited by processor size or memory and 256mb of RAM is quite sufficient. Billmex - have you upgraded your firmware to 2.0g yet?
No I have not updated to 2.0 g, I thought that 2.0e was for 4x capability on a dru 500a, I can go to sony site and update any time so I will chk it out, also the advice I was given about 40 vs 80 pin cable, I used a 40 pin so I will change that also, thanks for the advice, I need it
Thanks horizon1 I took your advice ans changed the cable to 80 pin and everything is fine and workds like a charm, I also went to sony site and checked the firmware update I had 2.0 e and it had 2.0g, but when I downloaded the update it said it was 2.0e not g. but everything works corect now thansk for all the help and suggestions, I 69 yrs young so sometimes I am a little slow and apprehensive playing inside my box, but i did it billmex
I'm still learning - Sorry for the mis-information, when a friend had the same problem we increased the RAM and went to 4X. Maybe we changed something else and that accounted for it - he might have done a firmware upgrade I wasn't aware of - I'm feeling really badly that I made him spend unnecessary $. I'm having problems trying to get the max burn speed with my NEC ND1300A, burnt an iso image earlier with DVD Decrypter and it burnt at 1.1x all the way through. My comp. ain't exactly new (AMD 900MHz, 384MB) but i've burnt a full 4.7GB in roughly half the time before. Nero infotool only tells you the max CD writing speed of the drive. So two questions: First, how can i get DVD Decrypter to burn at 4x? Second, Nero 6.0.0.28 doesn't give me the choice to burn at 4x, it only says 1,2,2.4 and max. Is that because 4x is max? If so then it's different for CD's because it lists the max speed of the burner as 16x, which it is. Cheers, chasin_h
Nero will always show 1, 2, 2.4 and maximum but it will burn at 4x if that is the media you inseert. I know nothing about burners other than sony as that is the one I have, butif you are not in dma mode with your hard drive and you burner you will not get fast read speed, also decryptor does not burn it only removes encryption and makes a region free file then you need to shrink it or burn with nero 6 hope this helps
If the disc is definitely a 4x disc (check and make sure) then Nero should identify it as a 4x with the 4x burn option showing. If it doesn't then you should check that Nero is identifying the drive correctly - look in the task bar on top for the correct option. Also make sure you have the latest firmware installed - you will need to visit the NEC website or do a google search. Making sure DMA mode is operating is also a good idea. You should also not burn through DVD decrypter but drag the files directly into Nero.
