I don't think the drive is broken as much as it simply a POS...I'd be suprised if they are still in business. A quick google search for your drive or just about any other Matshita drives will pretty much turn up nothing positive. Have a look here: http://www.sharkyforums.com/showpost.php?s=0a2a4a990cec3a09896c3b2ec22faa91&p=2214361&postcount=7 These may be dodgy discs as well, but I doubt a media change will do you much good. Burning too slow can be just as bad as burning too fast...I wouldn't set my burn speed below 4X and would probably chance an 8X burn.
