I've always used nero to burn my dvds. Today for the first time when I tried to burn a dvd it failed. I got the following error log. Here's some suggestions: Update Nero - package 1 to 6.6.1.15 Update the firmware on the burner to the latest - 2.FA Physical memory : 253MB Free physical memory: 71MB Memory in use : 71 % Add another 256 mb if you can. In the mean time keep as much memory free as possible - close any unneeded programs. Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AM3 Not the best. Better to use would be Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. Burn process failed at 1x A bit too slow - for the CMC made media try 4x - better media 8x. Give those a go and let us know.
I upgraded the firmware on the burner and I tried to burn at a higher speed, 2.4. It still wouldn't burn. I couldn't find an update for nero and my computer has the max memory available for my laptop. I think I might either try another burning program or try different media. Thanks for your help.

Like binkie says, you need different media. What do you mean your computer has maximum memory possible? If you mean you don't have any more slots, buy a different stick with more MB and replace the existing ones. Also, it might be possible to buy faster memory than the one you have now and improve performance.

I changed media and used Maxell but I still can not burn a DVD. Even with the latest firmware the drive doesn't seem to be recognizing the manufacturers info on the Maxell DVD's - Type : Blank DVD-R . Usually you'll see manufacturer info here too. Post the last failed Nero log. You might also what to try ImgBurn to burn w/ - just in case - though Nero 6 is pretty good.
I tried to burn with Imgburn but it still wouldn't burn. When nero go to the dvd drive to start spinning, the Maxell and Memorex dvds will not spin in my burner. I don't understand it because I can use any dvds at the lowest speed (1x) and the burner works fine. I just think those dvds don't work well with my burner. The last nero log is at the top of this thread. Thanks.
I'd still try one more brand of dvd's like the ones I posted above. I'm thinking the Maxell you have are made in Taiwan. The spinning sounds like the drive is not recognizing them. May not help but try uninstalling the drive then rebooting and letting windows reinstall - here's a guide for DMA - same steps - link
