I just tried burning to a verbatim 16x DVD... heard mixed reviews of the quality but verbatim is usually reliable (not even sure if this has anything to do with the disc). I dragged all the VOB TUS and BUP files over to the video_TS folder, set it at 4x write speed, then hit burn and less than 20 seconds later it gave me the error "Burn Process Failed at 4x" [bold]EDIT: does it make a difference that they're +R discs and my drive is +RW?[/bold]

nah, I just burned it successfully on some Memorex DVD+RW that was lying around... I guess my burner must have a problem with the Verbatim 16x discs. Hopefully best buy will take them back =/
