I was trying to burn a 693 MB (727,449,600 bytes) (Video Clip I believe .avi) video called Zeitgeist. A while ago I was having problems burning video files to dvds with Nero and I read somewhere that I should import the video I wanted to burn into Nero and burn it to the hard disk. So I did this and it created 5 files coming together as 4.14 GB (4,448,921,600 bytes). So I highlighted all 5 files and dragged them into Nero. It said do I want to merge them into one file, and I said yes. So all is well until I try to burn it, and it says I don't have enough space on my computer for the temp files, so I make some room, and try again. Then it just said "Burning process failed". Well once I got it going and all, after about a hour of transcoding and doing what ever it does. My DVD Drive just randomly opens, and Nero says "Burning process failed".

Let Nero save the DVD output to a folder on the hard drive.
That way you find out where it's failing.
If it outputs ok, then you can use 'Nero Express' to load the files and set it to burn at a moderate (4x) speed to a quality disk (Verbatim or something that says 'Made in Japan').
If it gives you the chance, save the log file in case you need it for troubleshooting.

What do you mean by "save the DVD output to a folder on the hard drive"? like take the video and when "writing it to hard disk folder" I should choose what? I have the video saving to a folder located on my desktop, and when its completed it creates a folder inside the folder on my desktop and its called VIDEO_TS.

So the problem is in burning, not in transcoding?

Yea. Its like my DVD Driver just quits in the middle of the burning process. Like when I start the burning process, its working fine and the progress bars are moving, but after like 30 minutes its stalls and no progress is made. Then my DVD drive either opens, or Nero just says "Burning process failed".

Does Nero produce a log of the session?

If not, try something like ImgBurn to burn the folder. This gets Nero out of the picture as far as the burning part.

    http://www.imgburn.com/

    Run ImgBurn
    Click 'Mode' > 'Build'
    Click 'Output' > 'Device'
Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
Set burning speed to 4x and click the green write button.

You might try something that says 'Made in Japan' or 'Verbatim'

    Good luck.

Istn't that movie Zeitgeist really interesting? Everyone here should watch that, it would really open people to the truth. If you want to burn multiple avi's to a dvd, use ConvertXtoDVD, you can merge multiple movies into one nice dvd, all seperated at the main menu for selection, the easiest I ever used.

DMA is the "fast" data transfer mode that your PC used to talk to your burner, your drive is in PIO mode or "slow" mode and the data transfer is so slow that occasionally there is a breakdown where the data isn't being recieved fast enough and can cause errors.

In addition to ConvertXtoDVD as a conversion program, I would recommend DVD Flick. It is free, whereas, ConvertXtoDVD is not but it does offer a trial period for you to try out the program with a watermark.
