I have tried to find similar post with this similar problem but had no luck. I just purchased a Nu DDW-081 burner and some 4x DVD+R discs. I have tried several times to backup a movie with DVD X Copy Platinum 3.0.2. The whole process go smooth and it says the burn is successful but when I put the DVD disc back in my NU DVD drive it at likes the discs is still blank. I can clearly see where the disc has been burned. I have tried to use DVD decrypter and then burn with Nero Express 6 and it does the same thing. Burn shows successful but the disc is blank. The next thing I know to try is to buy better DVD+R disks from Best Buy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
Could you post you system specs? And what media your using(brand)? That is a much older version. I would suggest upgrading to a new version. I recommend trying to get v4.0.4.15RF. It's the most current version, which allows you to use the browse button and burn movies on your HD. To get the RF version you'll have to e-mail support@321studios.com, give them your current license and password, [bold]and ask them to issue you a new RF(ripper free) license[/bold]. They should issue you one, reset your activations, and then allow you to download RF. Now once you get RF installed, download 321rip http://321rip.tripod.com/ ... this will allow RF to become a ripper version again. Until you get RF, I also suggest getting v4.0.3.8 which is a ripper version and is newer than v3.0.2 http://www.nycsoftware.com/dvdxcopy/support/. No need to uninstall previous version, just install over it. Unless your backing up dvd-5's ... what other software are you using for compression(for dvd-9's)? Try updating your aspi layer http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/. And my last suggestion is buy some RW's until this is fixed, and buy quality media. Ritek's are on sale right now on 50 for $30 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/89789
Thanks for your reply. After searching around in a few other threads, I did the following: Updated my ASPI Assured I had DMA enabled Made sure I had the latest firmware I first tried ripping the DVD with DVDShrink and then burning with Nero at 2x. It actually worked. Everything played good in my player except the Theatrical Trailer. I can handle that though. I then tried to copy the same movie again using DVD X Copy Platinum 3.0.2 and I had the same problem. Is there a way to change the write speed in DVDXCopy? The CDs Im using are very cheap no name brand DVD+R 4X and I think that might be half my problem. My System specs are Windows XP Prof, Pentium IV 2.0ghz, 512MB, 120GB, Nu DDW-081 8X DVD+/- drive. Let me know if you have any other suggestions. And thanks again for your suggestions. Im going to buy some RWs so I can stop making coasters.
Couple of suggestions: Get a newer version of XCopy Platinum and get better discs. Here is a quote by Scuba Pete about cheap media:
Thanks again for the help. I went out and bought a pack of 50 Verbatim 4x DVD+R and everything is working great. I guess I should have checked out the obvious first.
Use one of the free tools DVDInfoPro or DVDIdentifier to see who the manufacturer of your discs are. DVDInfoPro adds some harmless adware, but gives you a good test tool in return. Runs tests on the disc as well as identifying. Many brands shop around and sell discs by different manufacturers. I had a run of Ricoh discs across four major brands. Nice thing Ricoh makes a good disc. Some of those major brands also sell discs produced by companies with an inferior product. Interesting, isn't it. BTW, Verbatim was one of the brands that was manufactured by Ricoh, they sell others as well. [bold] So buying by brand doesn't always assure the same manufacturer.[/bold] Interestingly enough, Maxell, Imation, and Memorex sold me the same Ricoh discs as the Verbatim. My last batch of Memorex were from an inferior manufacturer. Luckily not many in that purchase and they don't get used for anything important. They do work. Over the past few months I have noticed Memorex selling discs by CMC Magnetics Corp., Ricoh, and Philips. 3 different manufacturers for the same brand and a supposed vast quality difference. Some bad reports on CMC Magnetics, not sure myself. Didn't see it mentioned anywhere, always keep from 10 to 15GB HD free space for DVD recording, higher is better, especially for the larger movies. _X_X_X_X_X_[small][bold]'brobear'[/bold] [/small]
Flip was right about getting the latest possible version of the software. The later versions of Platinum included a user guide. Below is a checklist for your 321 software, give it a good going over. It has a lot of pertinent data and things to avoid. I suggest all 321 owners copy this and give it a good read. Tier 2 tech assistance gave me a lengthy bulletin they had prepared. Seems that a number of popular software programs cause interference problems. Tech Support said the problem could crop up anytime; even after the program functioning well for an extended period. A word of warning, try turning off programs before going through Add-Remove to remove permanently. Here is the bulletin: The following programs can cause problems while using 321 Studios software: [bold]1. B's Clip:[/bold] This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot to remove it. For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com. [bold]2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk:[/bold] These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. To remove them you need to go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to Change - not Remove. Then you click next until it gives you the option to Modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click Next. While the program may look like it is installing, it is actually removing those options. For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml [bold]3. GoBack:[/bold] This is backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) which not only needs to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this may cause some restore points to vanish, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space. For more information visit Symantec's web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html [bold]4. DLA: Also HP-DLA, Veritas DLA, and others[/bold]. DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot to remove it. [bold]5. InCD:[/bold] This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom. For more information go to Nero's website at http://www.nero.com/en/ [bold]6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player:[/bold] These programs are DVD software viewers that often come on DVD movie discs, and will try to install themselves everytime you watch a movie on your computer. Please make sure to NOT let these install. Both programs interfere with all 321 Studios software and should be un-installed from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel when found. In some cases, you will need to uninstall and reinstall our software to restore functionality after removing one of these. For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/ [bold]7. McAfee Anti-Virus:[/bold] This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, McAfee needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. For more info go to McAfee's website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp [bold]8. Norton Anti-Virus:[/bold] This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic updates should be disabled. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, Norton needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/ [bold]9. StopZilla:[/bold] StopZilla can hinder required portions of our installer, causing the software to fail. Please completely disable StopZilla, then install our software. Once our software is installed, you may safely enable it again. If you have any difficulty using our software at a later time, you may need to disable StopZilla before going to use our software. Uninstallation is not required. [bold]10. MyStorageGuard:[/bold] This backup software can hinder certain required files from being copied during the installation. Please disable this program before installing our software, and have it disabled any time you go to use our software. Uninstallation is not required. [bold]11. Napster 2.0:[/bold] This software includes some basic burning software that can cause burning problems if it is running. You will need to close this program completely before trying to use our software. In some rare cases, you will need to completely uninstall this package to attain full reliability, so if disabling does not solve your issue, please try uninstalling this software, and try again. [bold]12. Easy CD Creator 4.x:[/bold] Due to the age of this package, it is no longer updated by the authors. There are bugs present in this older system that will cause NUMEROUS problems on your machine, not just with our software. Please Uninstall completely, and consider either the new 6.x version from Roxio (http://www.roxio.com) or Nero 6.x (http://www.nero.com). These packages, installed without the Packet Writing software (DirectCD/Drag to Disk/InCD), all work very well together with our software. [bold]13. NTI FileCD:[/bold] This program has packet writing software installed with it. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot twice to fully remove it. For more information go to NTI FileCD's Product page at http://www.ntius.com/default.asp?p=cdmaker/filecd_main [bold]Spyware and Adware[/bold] - some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-aware, available freely at www.lavasoftusa.com If you perform any of these changes, you may need to uninstall our software, then re-install to fix any damage left. If you find some of these packages, please shut down and reboot twice to ensure that the last pieces of the conflicting software are completely removed. Every version of windows requires updates.
