I have Nero 7, and made the mistake of reading the manual :)

But first, let me mention that I need to burn a Win95 disc in order to install it on an older computer that has Win2000 on it.

Second, the manual says "The CD contains a boot image and an ISO part. The boot image contains all files that are required to load the operating system and to start the computer. The ISO part can contain any number of data files that you can back up using this method."

So, I made an ISO image from the Win95 files to a file on my existing (new) computer with the extension .nrg.

So, now I am absolutely lost. What files goes into the ISO (.nrg) file and what files go into the image file (.img, I believe)? (I am nor sure how to create an image file, but I assume Nero Nero can do it somehow.)

The manual also says: "When booting from a disc, you can only start an operating system that does not write to the disc, such as "MS DOS" or "Linux". During booting Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and Microsoft® Windows® XP write to the disc from which they are being booted. This is not possible with a disc and so the process is canceled and the PC cannot be started."

So, how do I get Win 2000 off the hard drive in which I will install my Win95? Seems like Catch 22. However, I am sure there is a solution, of coures, I just don't know what it is.

    Grateful for some clues.

you just need to burn the iso file, thats it:)
its a bootable iso and just needs to burned thats all!

use a free burner called imgburn to burn the iso correctly
go to step eleven (11) in this guide and follow that to burn your iso
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/580060

    imgburn here: http://www.imgburn.com/

note:you cannot just drag and drop the iso to a cd and burn it this will create a data cd with the iso on it which is useless

questions or issues please post back:)

Thank you, tripplite. When I created my ISO with DoIso, I did *not* check "DVD Video Filesystem". Was that okay, or ...?

so you got hold of the files not an iso

and you want to make a bootable cdr with the files?

    what files did you get?

a boot file can be a .img also i think comes with a .cat, which goes on the same disc as iso (but in a certain way!!!)

    ---------------

puppy linux will boot a basic os from a cdr on boot, when desktop shows use pgmount to mount iso (if not bootable)

puppy linux free via the net, about 80/90 meg iso you burn straight to disc.

Doiso cannot create a bootable iso, just take you .iso and go to step 11 ,its labled as 11) in the guide and follow from there to burn the iso, your iso is already a bootable iso so you just need to burn

so follow from the part it tells you to launch imgburn and and follow through with that to burn your iso:)

Rotary, yes, I have all I need, just need to get one clarification from tripplite.

tripplite, in the DoIso window, you can either check "DVD Video Filesystem" or *not* check "DVD Video Filesystem". When I created my ISO file, I did *not* check "DVD Video Filesystem". Was that correct? Or should I have checked "DVD Video Filesystem" when I created my ISO file?

you did not have to have that checked so your fine, but the original iso you had was bootable, why not just burn that one? why are you trying to remake the iso when you already have it? just burn it with imgburn, step 11)

    still here bro

Okay, buddy, good to hear I did the right thing. Now, I have no desire at all to remake the ISO – I just wanted to make sure the first one was okay before I continued to burn it with imgburn. That will be my next step.

    Here is what I did:

I clicked on "Write image file to disc" in Imgburn.

Then, I wonder why I should not have clicked on the left icon (folder with a magnifying glass) instead of the right icon (folder with a plus sign)? But, I followed your item 13 and clicked on the plus sign icon.

The window that opened does not look like the one you show in item 14. It looks like this (if the image thing here works):

    I found the ISO file.

I wonder why I could not just have clicked the "Write" icon (a disc on a square + a green arrow head + a disc)? However, I clicked on OK (there is no "Close" button).

I now have my boot disk.

    Thanks!

thats no good man, it wont work now LOL, now upon burn the disc will just have one file on it...the original ISO,you made an iso of your iso, which means that when you burn it will burn the contents of your iso which is just the first iso LOL so just take the first iso you had and burn that one with imgburn

Not to worry, Island man, I did burn the first ISO file with imgburn, and my boot disk now has all the original files of the Win95 directory from which I made the ISO file. I think I am good.

And I have Imgburn 2.4.0.0, which I guess is a newer version than the one you based your little guide on.

Now, I have to get back to one of my original questions"

"The manual also says: "When booting from a disc, you can only start an operating system that does not write to the disc, such as "MS DOS" or "Linux".

However, I am sure there is a solution, of coures, I just don't know what it is."

Would you have any comments on this?

If you need a floppy bootdisk to help you install windows 95, look here.
You can format your hard drive to remove the entire windows 2000 operating system then do a clean install of windows 95.

    Boot Disk
    I hope this is helpful.

Nope, I have no floppy drive on my present computer. I could transfer the file via CD to the old computer and create a boot floppy there, but since i have a boot CD already, there is no need. Thanks anyway.

Let me know how you format the hard drive and erase the win2K system. I've always used the floppy method, but I guess you could run it from a bootable CD and format it that way.

agreed, make sure to set your bios to boot off disc in order to install win95 at boot,

btw: if your installing win95 on a computer that housed windows ME (2000) some recent hardware may not supported by the win95...keep that in mind:D
