    Hi,

I've just purchased a SonyDRU-500. My question is: besides movies, can I burn software/data on a dvd?

    Thanks.

Yes you can. Just like a CD in that regards. Most software will let you do that. (Nero, RecordNow, Roxio.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that burner supports -R as well as +R, correct? You will get as many answers about media as there are posters to this board.

Myself, I've used Princo and Hotan -R media and have had great success with my LG burner.

Lets hope you have a better experience with the Sony dru 500 than I have.

You'll have to try a variety of media as some media that works with one sony dru 500 will not work for another sony dru 500. Go figure. Its hit and miss.

Even discs that are not reportedly good for burning movies should be OK for storing data so you should be OK with the cheap ones. Make sure you select UDF option before burning to ensure problem free playback on your PC.

Perhaps I was misunderstood before..What I meant is: is there's a difference between using a +R or -R media for burning data (not movies)?
