i have looked through the guides and i couldn't find the answer to this question....in the guide burning programs mentioned include nero, clone dvd and imgburn...can i use roxio 7 (which i still feel more comfortable with than nero or roxio 8) if so is there a guide to using roxio

the second question...with my roxio, dvd43 i can backup moviesusing roxiowhich will allow me to exclude parts of the dvd and will compress to fit on cd5....there is rarely a problem (i dont know how long the backups will go before skipping or freezing...sometimes it happens on the first or second play) my question is thewrre any point in me using a separate decryper/ripper, shrinker and burner

Using DVD43 is asking for future problems imo. I wouldn't use it. But if you're happy with Roxio and compressing to fit on to a CD, I won't try to twist your arm to change what you're doing. I suspect you mean DVD5 instead of CD5 though. Although DVD43 is free it has some serious issues and has been known to not get along with some other programs. Most of us here prefer AnyDVD over DVD43 but it's your system and choice. Neither AnyDVD or DVD43 are actually needed for backups as indicated below.

To backup a DVD you can use all free programs.

Use DVDFab Decrypter to rip the DVD.
Use DVD Shrink to compress to fit or reauthor the DVD.
Use ImgBurn to burn the project.
