bought DVD Xcopy ExpressRF. Downloaded DVD43 and Patin-couffin. It recognizes inserted DVD's, going from yellow to devil, then green. Copies and says successfull burn, but will not play in any media.(laptop,desktop,3 other DVD players connected to TV's).Then downloaded DVDShrink and movies are on hard drive under VIDEO_TS files and will play on laptop. Tried to burn with Nero 6. Burn successful, but goes from play to stop. No other options. My burner is Hitachi 4040N DVD+RW. Will that burn on DVD+R, or only on DVD+RW? Will not recognize DVD-RW as that is what I picked up in ignorance. Could my whole problem be with my choice of writeable DVD's? Would appreciate any input.
sscheiter, We have a few things going on here - First, very few standalone DVD players will play RW media. The best use for RW is to use it as a separate HD, or to practice with for burning for instance. To insure playing in something other than a PC you have to check your DVD layers Mfg. spec book to see what it will play (older players will only play minus (-) media. New Players will play dirty dinner dishes . Next, consider your media, almost any DVD discs are excellent for text, data, spreadsheets, jpg or gif's and music. DVD's that are used for video has to be a much better quality. Ritek G04 or Verbatim or a media boasting metal AZO dye (although the latter is a bit pricey). The cheap stuff can't be counted upon for consistent quality. You can’t ever lose with quality media for media backup ! As for burning VIDEO_TS files to DVD’s, most any burning program can burn VIDEO_TS folders (as long as long as they contain the BUP’s, IFO’s and VOB’s of the DVD.). A short list of excellent burning programs are Nero, RecordNow Max, CloneDVD, CopyToDVD are to name some The 2 main DVD files needed to burn a good backup are either VIDEO_TS files or ISO files ) BTW, Welcome to our little Club) Pete
