I've read the forums for over six months now, but I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why DVD won't burn. I use DVD Shrink then burn using Nero around 75% to 90% the burn fails and says:

First remove your serial number [bold]1A20-XXXXXXXXXXXX[/bold]

125 is ok for doing backups but you should really cclose any programs in the background or defrag your memory.

    Burn at 4x only!

Update your Nero to 6.6.xxx and update your firmware for your burner.

I have no idea what kind of dvd writer you have there. Perhaps, you should check this forum http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php to see if there's a new firmware available for your dvd burner. Sometimes by updating your writer's firmware it may recognize more blank media and could solve the issue you're having now.

One of your driver's DMA is OFF or in PIO mode. DMA should be ON, to get back your DMA on, try to do this if you're on XP.

((((( To enable DMA back on by "uninstalling" it's driver )))))

    A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES"
    B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
    C) left click on +sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive (do it once at a time and restart once at a time)
    E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer
    F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner and install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!!

NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.

    (A) left click on + sign of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers
    (B) double left click on either Primary or Secondary IDE Channel (NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka Primary IDE Channel already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the next step.
    (C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!

(bb) To verify your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers with Nero: Open up "Nero Ultra" or "StartSmart", click on "Nero Toolkit", then click on "Nero InfoTool" (InfoTool will run and retrieve all drivers), now click on "Configuration" - this should show you where your DVD Burner/DVD-ROM is installed under either Primary or Secondary <--- make good note of that and you're ready to "uninstall" your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers now.

NOTE: I recommend you to use high quality medias such as FUJI/Taiyo Yuden, MAXELL and SONY (make sure it's a 8X DVD+R and it says "MADE IN JAPAN" on the spindle/package box. Another top notch media is "Verbatim", this is one of the high class media in the market now-a-days, and it's as good as Taiyo Yuden/Fuji and Maxell as well.

Free up more memory if you can, the more the better when you're in the process of backing up movie.

Looks like a decent Verbatim blank, but I can't really comment on this due to the fact that I'm not quite familiar with this code before.

You're burning way too fast. I "would not" recommend regardless of how super power your dvd writer is capable of. The max I would go is 8X only.

    @ alkohol

the Verbatim he is using to burn is Verbatim 16x dvd+r, with the MCC004 coding, these are GREAT discs btw, however, even I do NOT burn @16x...that is where Jgreed is running into his biggest problem.

media is NOT the culprit here, it's the BURN PROCESS that is messing up.

    @Jgreed

i would do what both dvdback & alkohol stated...but, once you update your nero and your firmware, SLOW DOWN YOUR BURN SPEED...even on great media that you are using, i would NEVER RECOMMEND burning @16x, it's MUCH too fast...slow it down to 8x...i use those same discs very frequently and i personally burn them @8x with FLAWLESS results...

just wanted to emphasize what the other 2 guys stated already, but, BURN SLOWER...go 8x or if you want even MORE confidence of knowing it will be a successful burn...even slow it down to 4x (i PERSONALLY feel 4x is not necessary, and 8x is just fine for 16x QUALITY MEDIA, but that is just MY own opinion).

    good luck

I'm using Verbatim DVD+R 16x media. I have defraged computer and shut down programs running in background. I updated drive which is a I/O Magic DVD burner. Uninstalled and reinstalled all programs related to burning process. I will try slowing speed down and see what happens. Thank you all for you input and wisdom.

I slowed down the burn speed to 8x and it worked fine. Thank you all once again for your help. I'm now going to close this thread.
