Is it bad if u burn a divx/xvid movie onto a 700mb cd-r @ speeds higher than 24x? Will the movie get off sync?
My very 1st post at this english-forum, yeah baby! Well anyway, my personal recommendation is to burn as slow speed as possible, and this goes for everything (images, music-files, movies, data...). Burning at highspeed could (and does) cause some amount of damage to the files, i've seen (and heard) it happen (my friend did burn some cd-disks and around 1/4 tracks had these "blob blob blob" sounds on the background). I also recommend to use some high-quality disks

Most of us follow this simple rule: burn no faster than 1/2 of what the disk is rated for; slower is better. Usually 4x to 8x for dvd's & 4x to 16x for cd's.
Not everyone is in the stone age nor does slower is better apply when burning movies today. If you have to burn your selected media at half speed you are using the wrong media for your burner. Here's some 8x TYG02's which I burn in my Pioneer 115D at 12x. Two scans (in my Benq) at 4X and 8x. A quality burner and the correct media for it are the secret to good burns.
I can't wait to see how this debate gets sorted out. This should be a good one. I've always done that "half the rated speed thing" and know the conventional reasons why. But where did that "half" rule of thumb originate? Who said so? Cheapie discs, maybe. But if Verbatim and Tao Yuden or the top of the line, why not full speed? Isn't that like having a car whose speedomter goes up to 120 mph but the fastest it will go is 80? What's the point?
Whatever I'm going to be on the safe side and burn everything at 4x. I need to check out that Nero CD DVD speed.
