I recently tried using both dvdshrink and imgburn but was given a message that there was some error after installing both and couldn't use them so I tried convert x to dvd and was somewhat successful in burning one divx movie file to a DVD+R disc only I'm experiencing slight pauses throughout the movie and a message that flashes across the screen telling me to go to a website and remove it. Does anyone have this experience also and it's maybe just the program that does this . I'm thinking of trying nero 7 again even though it appeared to be a buggy program that ruined discs and uses up a lot of resources . It didn't look like nero 8 was much better and roxio easy media 9 won't add certain files like DVDRIP/ XVID/ AVI . I appreciate any help on this matter and would like to find as much freeware as possible knowing that the applications you pay for aren't guaranteed to work either .

The message on screen isn't from ConvertXtoDVD unless it's to purchase VSO ConvertXtoDVD. The pauses are likely due to burning speed or poor media. Keep burns at 4x or 1/2 the rated speed of the media and have a look at Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or any media made in Japan. Nero and Roxio can conflict if they're both installed and I don't know a lot of DVD Shrink but don't think it converts. If you can't add Avi, you need a codec and here's a guide for a free encoder: http://beginwithsoftware.com/videoguides/dvd-flick-guide.html

this could be the DivX movie that you downloaded! sometimes files downloaded from the internet has blocks that make you go to the websites and either register and pay your dues and then get the full fledged file that doesn't have pauses or interruptions telling you to go to a website. Again..... this is not the product of the program that you used to burn it to DVD.... it's the file(s) that you downloaded encouraging you to do what THEY want so you can get the correct files to burn the movie! but just in case your having other problems burning:

    1. burning speeds: burn at 4x so there will be less writing errors (rule of thumb is to burn at half the rated speed of the disk--8X disk burn at 4x).
    2. read manual for your stand alone player and use the disks that will play in your player. If your player is less than 2 yrs old then it should play the + or - R disks! I said SHOULD that's why you read the manual.
    3. try booktyping your drive to DVd-ROM so it will make your +R disks more compatible to players. Read this:
    http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
    4. make sure that there are no finger prints or scratches on your disk that make it hard for the player to read the disk!
    5. use good quality media (rule of thumb....buy the ones that are Made in Japan.) Verbatim is a top notch disk and is the only exception to this rule....some Verbatims are made in Taiwan and they are top notch!
    6. and don't burn too close to the outer edge of the disk ..... which will make the disk unreadable! but using good media you will be able to burn close to the edge better than lesser quality media. Just in case I only burn no closer than 4400MB, so if you can set your programs to that, all the better!

follow these little tips of the trade and you'll have better success! good luck.
