you need to find and download the correct codecs for playing the file then convert it to mpeg hope this helps.

MKV is the typical extension for a Matroska video file, it may contain several video tracks (in most cases only one), as well as several audio and subtitles tracks, in various formats. In addition to that the files can have attachements like JPEGs, song lyrics, decoder filters for DirectShow or other decoders, etc. http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=MKV The Matroska Packs - Download http://downloads.matroska.org/packs/ Matroska can be played by any DirectShow player with packs above or. MediaPlayer Classic Core Media Player MPlayer VLC Player http://www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ Can be converted with the Matroska Splitter from links above and. I have never worked with .mkv files, but it's a place to start.
After getting the codecs burning a mkv file is really easy. First you need a program to convert the file type. I use Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/). Open your mkv file and go to file "save as" rename your file with .avi extension (mpeg file extensions don't seem to work). I use Nero Express to burn my video files. After converting it, it had no problem burning and playing on the dvd player.
