Hi I have nero 6.3.1.20 and am attempting to burn MP3 CDs. Nero Express will go thru the motions as though it is burning and it will say it was successful, but the disc is unreadable by any device that uses MP3. I used GSpot to check my codecs and it says I have 'FILE MISSING' for Nero Audio Encoder and Nero Digital Video Encoder (YV12). Does anyone know how I can fix this? I've tried reinstalling Nero. Thanks.
If you use the Nero 'Disc Info' on the disc you just wrote to with Nero, does it report as blank? If it does, then it's very likely you are writing to the Image Recorder, which is really your Hard Drive. Make sure you are selecting your recorder as the destination and not the Image Recorder. And if you can provide the Nero log file from the failed write, we can be of more assistance. P.S. Be sure to edit out your Nero serial key before posting the log file. Question: Where is the log file kept normally? (Remember, NERO reported that it was a successful burn, not a failure). The disc in question becomes unreadable by both my PC and MP3 devices (such as my DVD player). Essentially, it just becomes a coaster. I looked at Image Recorder and it is turned OFF. According to INFO TOOL, the System ASPI is NOT INSTALLED, but NERO ASPI is (if that makes any difference) Bit puzzled.
Look at the disc using Nero's Disc Info, does it report the disc as empty? At the end of any write, good or bad, Nero asks you if you wish to save the Nero log file. If you failed to do so, you can go to the C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero folder and look for a file called NeroHistory.log and this will contain the last 5 write attempts you did with Nero. Nero uses our own ASPI, but you may need the system ASPI for other programs and devices, so you may wish to install this in the future, though it has nothing to do with your current issues. Nero Info Tool describes the disc as 'no disc inserted'. As I said before, the disc cannot be read. Here is the log as per your request. fingerbob none ****-****-****-****-****-**** (SERIAL REMOVED) Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.68, size=160016 bytes, created 22/07/2004 17:33:44 Nero version: 6.3.1.20 (Nero Express) Recorder: <MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8121> Version: AZ16 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.3.1.20 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8121 >Version: AZ16 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.3.1.20 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : HITACHI_DK23DA-30 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8121 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8121 D: CDRom0 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 66060288 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 447MB (458224kB) Free physical memory: 146MB (150324kB) Memory in use : 67 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Static Write Speed Table: 0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 3.10.2004 CD-ROM (MP3) 23:07:55 #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6065 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : TAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 23:07:55 #2 Phase 90 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1855 Buffer Underrun Protection activated 23:07:55 #3 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 126 Reader running 23:07:55 #4 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 124 Writer MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8121 running 23:07:55 #5 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3899 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 23:07:55 #6 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3173 Turn on Track-at-once, using CD-R/RW media 23:07:56 #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 247 Last possible write address on media: 359845 ( 79:59.70) Last address to be written: 332899 ( 74:00.49) 23:07:56 #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 259 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 23:07:56 #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2162 Recorder: MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8121; CDR code: 00 97 32 19; OSJ entry from: Prodisc Technology Inc. Place that same disc in your Recorder, and then Launch Nero and go to Nero's "Disc Info" do not use Nero Info Tool, and see if the session is open. The Nero Log file you provided indicates a succesful write, but at the very end you did get an error message when it attempted to finalize the disc. Its possible it was succesful, but due to what you are reporting I would tend to believe otherwise. If the disc is not closed properly it will not be readable and it would explain your issues. Nero's 'Disc Info' feature will detect this, and bring up two options to 'Close Session' or 'Close Disc'. Choose the 'Close Disc' optoin and see if you are then able to read the disc. Hi Craig Thank you ever so much for your help - it worked and now the disk is readable! Let me tell you what happened however... I did as you asked and Nero took about 1 min to close the disc. Right at the very end I got the message saying Nero has a prob and needs to shut down. I then got another saying that DrWatson Postmortem Debug has a prob and needs to shut down. I had to use Task Manager to cancel out - but the disc plays fine now. So I suppose my question now is - what do I need to do to ensure Nero closes the disc after each burn to CDR? Once again, thanks Craig.
Hi Fingerbob, By default Nero will always either close the session or close the disc depending on the write operation you select. When it fails, its normally due to driver conflicts, conflicts with another program, old firmware, poor or dirty media, old version of our Nero software, etc. Regards, Craig Ahead Software USA
