Hey everyone, I know this doesn't really apply to this forum, but I'm sure a lot of you out here know alot about this question. I rip all of my CD's to my PC, as that's the only place I listen to them anyway. It took me a very long time to rip them all, and I would like to back them all up so that if I lost my HD, I wouldn't have to rip them all again.

There are about 80GB of MP3s. Eventually, I'd like to just buy a huge second hard drive used only to back up my entire hard drive, but until that is possible, I have been backing them up to DVD's, just as data. But last time I did it, I tried to copy them back to the computer, just to test it out, and it kept erroring out with a CRC error. (cyclic redundancy check).

Anybody know how I can burn these to DVD without getting that CRC error later when trying to pull them back off the DVD's?

    Thanks.

The CRC error normaly indicates a problem with the media / disc. Try using good quality dvd's and try updating your burners firmware from the manufacturers website. If you are not using nero to burn then try it. Very good program indeed. Hope it helps!

Thanks for the reply. I'm using Nero 6, and I figure I'm using good discs. I use different brands, usually Maxell or Khypermedia. What would be a good brand to try? But updating my burner's firmware is a good idea, I'll give that a shot too.
    Thanks.

use good quality Ritek/Ridata, Verbatim, or Tayo Yudens...they're the only way to go.

lol, that's kind of funny you should mention Ridata. Right after I posted my last thread, I went and took a look at the discs I was currently using.... sure enough, Ridata. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

what's the media code on that ridata? i've never had anything but success with them, and because of that, it's all i use. Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are still top-notch, however.

Hm, well, I'm not sure. There are two tiny numbers on the discs. D1109A31028R, and the other one is K3C02268E506RS3121909D09861. But to be honest, I really don't think there is a problem with the discs. I use these disc for all sorts of other things like videos and data. The ONLY time I get this CRC error is with MP3s. And I only get it when trying to copy them FROM the disc. And the funny thing is, it doesn't happen every time. If I try it again, with the same disc and data, sometimes it might work. It's really weird, and it's only with MP3s!
