[/b]Firstly I'd like to thank in advance those that take the time to reply and help me. I may have figured out the problem, however I would like some confirmation before I rip my system apart Nero Version: 7.10.1.0 When burning music (a data disc) to a DVD (I tried single layer and dual) it burned about 2%, then stopped. Nero ran for about 7 minutes longer, then ejected the disc. I'll post the small log at the end. I did some searching, and discovered hobbit112 reply to Florence1 post. I followed his/her insructions in the aforementioned post. Everything went as expected until I tried to change the IDE transfer mode from PIO to DMA. Device 0 is set to DMA if available and Current Transfer Mode is Ultra DMA Mode 2. Device 1 is set to DMA mode if available however, CTM is set to PIO with no option to switch to DMA. I have uninstalled the device, and let windows reinstall it twice, with the same result, DMA does not appear. Drivers are up to date, but in this old Dell I picked up, the original DVD read only is set to Master, and I have a new LG GSA-H54N set to slave. Is it possible that I should move the burner to master and the reader to slave? Would that have any affect on the DMA/PIO setting? Hi Jeraal I think I'd take the pc apart - well the drives out at least. Dell's usually prefer the jumper pin on the back of the drive to be set to cable select. Check the older dvd-rom and what it's jumper pin is set too - if this drive came with the dell then it's probably set to cable select. Change the LG drive to cable select too and see if DMA is enabled. Here's also a utility from Dell to set the secondary ide channel to DMA (both these drives are on the channel) Check the jumper pin settings 1st though.
Thanks for the reply binkie7 It is getting late here, so tearing the drives out will have to wait for tomorrow. I will follow your advice and check the jumper pin settings, then if that doesnt work, Ill flip the drives. I was unaware that Dell set their drives to C Select. You learn something new evey day I will post back and let you know what , if anything, worked Thanks again!
Not a problem Jeraal. Yeah Dell is one of the only ones that usually have the preference to cable select. So yep check that out. Keep us posted!
I was also going to suggest checking in the bios for the DMA selection on the secondary channel. It's been a long time since I've looked over a Dell. Binkie7, I didn't see the link for the utility to change the DMA on the Dell.
I found the utility binkie I ended up swapping the drives around, and set my burner as master and the dvd-rom as slave. It was set to Cable Select however. Once I did that had nero rerun the project, and 20 mins later 8 gb of music burned on a DL disc. Worked perfect, thanks for the advice !
