I have done several searches and was surprised to not find any hits for problems when using the FileList to add files/tracks to a compilation for burning an audio CD; perhaps everyone has moved on to video - hope not!

When I have created a set of wav files in a folder and I want to burn them as an audio CD, I use the "New Compilation" process and then "Add Files". This gives me the usual FileList tool (explorer based?), but when I select the files as a group and "add" them, the order in the compilation is screwed up (I think that may be an Explorer/Shell problem, but I really don't know - I found nothing on MS's site), and the names are overwritten by "Track n" - at least the first 9 are, after that most of the names are there, but some of them are corrupted (bits of the name missing). Has anyone else had problems with this function, as this is making the process very hard work and very, very error-prone.

Edit - Should have said - I'm on Nero 7 (Setup says Burning ROM 7.5.0.2)

When you compile an audio cd put the track number in front of each track to get the correct order you require i.e.
01 iron maiden somewhere in time
02 iron maiden bla bla bla
Also make sure you have got the id3 tag information in the correct order for the tracks to play correct on your stereo think this is what you’re on about?

Hello killalot - thanks for the reply.

Yes, the advice to put the numbers at the front of each track name is sound, but, unfortunately, I was already doing that (it was fairly automatic for me as I'm very familiar with sorted data and collating sequences).

I did a lot of experimenting with this last night (a lot) and there are two problems. One is a minor irritation that is, I think, caused by Win Explorer: this puts the last file of a group selection first in the target area. This though is easy to alter in the Nero Burning Compilation panel by selecting the track-name and drag-dropping it in the last position; as I said, a minor irritation. The other problem is that if you have given the files/tracks meaningful names, most of them are used correctly (although 1 or 2 in a group of 20-odd may have data lost from the start of the name), but the first 9 (it has so far in my testing been 9) have their names changed to 'Trackn' (n = 1-9). This is confusing and takes a while to amend as one has to ensure that the files are correctly addressed (save the comp and check the file with a hex editor). This only occurs with raw .wav files, created using Wave Editor. However, if you use a CD which contains CD-Text as the source for the files/tracks (ie rip a CD with CD-Text into .wav files), Nero handles these filenames with no problem. Thus I think there is a bug in there when CD-Text is specified for burning (which I always use).

There is more I could add, but this has already been quite a long post. I could try updating my Nero applications, but from this forum that appears to be a risky move. So I might try using Easy CD-DA to burn the first disc and then reload into Nero for others and for creating covers. I have a collection of over 1000 LPs, and am trying to copy about half to CD; it is proving to be a bit of a work-up.

By the by, I never get involved with id3 tags - these are wave files I'm using and they don't use them (I think) - indeed I don't use mp3 at all: wav for working files for creating audio CDs, WMP Lossless for archive, and AAC for use on my creative ZEN.

Thanks for the reply; I could report the bug to Nero, but I'm 'back-level' so I don't think they will be interested.
    Regards.

I might be wrong but when you rip an audio cd to your hardrive in wave or MP3 the last track is always put at the top because reason the track number on the cd doesn’t start with track 01 it starts with “1” but the last track is 20 0r 22 depends how many tracks are on the cd with the number 20 being higher then “1” that’s why its at the top?
Like I said I’m no expert so could be wrong sorry cant help any more if you put up a screen picture before you chance the file names some one might be able to help a bit more
