After playing back burnt DVD's on my new dvd player, the movies turn black and white occasionally during playback then will return to color and then back to black and white again etc. Does anyone know what the deal is with this. It happened on my last DVD player and I thought this was just a player problem so I bought a new player. Now after a year, the new one I bought is now doing the same thing. Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Could be caused by the use of poor quality media - they tend to degrade over time - what media brands are you using?

Burning too fast or the use of paper labels on your burnt media could also cause these problems.

I was using the cheap fujifilm DVD-R and now am using the TDK print-on discs. Even brand new discs are going to black and white during playback. I hope it's not screwing up the laser in the DVD player again.

Not sure what is happening - Fiji and TDK while not top quality are basically OK and better than some others such as Memorex etc.

Does your problem occur with burnt disks only or do you have similar probelms with originals?

Reverting to B&W can sometimes be a Pal/NTSC issue.

You could also have codec problems.

In my experience el cheapo Chinese players are more reliable and durable than name/expensive players.

You need to see if you get the same results on other machines (e.g. friends).

I had a Toshiba player when this first started happening and thought the player was to blame so I bought a Panasonic this time. Started happening on the Panasonic within a week so I tend to think it shouldn't be the player itself but the discs. The weird part is I can watch a disc one day and it will play fine. The next day, the same disc will go black and white half way through the movie. Do you think the burning program I am using could be to blame?? I use Clone DVD along with Any DVD.
