Not quite a newbie, but have had several problems with movie back ups burnt to DVD. I'm using DVDFab (latest version) to rip to HDD, DVD Shrinking (latest version) and burning with Nero (6.6.1.4) or ImgBurn (latest version). Burning with either results in a smooth copy at first, but starts to pause or stutter the last five to ten minutes of the movie (or disc). I thougt it might be Nero and started using ImgBurn; same result. Thought it might be discs; picked up a spindle of TYs(are supposed to be very reliable) - same problem. I've read through other posts and reduced finalize size to 4300 MB when shrinking, hoping the problem might be with the edges of the media - nothing's worked. Can anyone help?
Have you checked your burn speed? Use 4X 6X or at least no faster than 8X speed. Just to be sure, is this where you changed the final burn size? Make sure you don't multitask when processing as this takes away system resources. It could be the burner is on the way out perhaps?
Thanks for the reply onya. Yes, I've tried several burn speeds; 8x or under since my TYs are 8x. Nero will only produce a readable disc when burning at 4x, and ImgBurn will only burn and verify a full disc without error at 8x. The changes I've made to final size are as you've shown in DVD Shrink. I've tried 4400 down to 4200 and alway run Deep Analysis. I'm careful to shut down all other programs when ripping, shrinking and burning - I've gone as far as disabling my web connection and shutting down my virus/spyware programs. I thought about my drive going bad, but the burnt DVDs only have a problem at the very end of the disc. If the drive was going bad, I'd expect to have problems all over the disc, not just one specific area.
It seems your doing everything to order and even getting the best media to burn to. Is there a way to test burn these dics at another pc? This will at least eliminate them as a possible culprit. If this works and you've cleaned the burners lens on yours and still get no joy, then in all honesty I'd get another burner. Up-dating the optical drives firmware may be of an advantage, but I sincerely doubt it. You've eliminated most of the obvious, and credit to you BTW in doing so. I wish my so called "technical expertise" was of more help. Let us know how you go. Cheers.
Would a simulation burn help? It does everything except turn the laser on and at least the Nero log would have something to say.
I have another PC lined up for this weekend, and I'll give it another try. I tried the simulation and saved the log. I did try one more thing; I played the iso image with Nero Showtime, specifically the area that I have a problem with on the disc - the iso image played perfectly. Now, I'm thinking it's the process of burning (could be a problem with the drive as it's been suggested, or my PC is doing something to the file during the burn process) - still have to try on another PC to make sure it's not the discs. Here's the log of the simulation: Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 11/2/2004 12:54:32 PM NT-SPTI used Nero Version: 6.6.1.4 Internal Version: 6, 6, 1, 4d Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DRU-800A> Version: KY06 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.1.4 Adapter driver: <IDE> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ?
