Anyone had any problems getting The Butterfly Effect (Directors Cut) backed up? I tried using DVD Shrink and it would not compress far enough to go onto a single disk. I did drop the AC3 2 Channel stereo audio streams and managed to get it all on there. Anyway, just thought I would toss that random thought out there for someone to chew on.
well, i backed it up fine. Which region is it, because region 1 is on a flipper disc. Theatrical version on 1 side, directors cut on the other, and both sides are dvd5.
It's region 1...the only side I backed up was the director's cut side. What did you use to make your back up? I was thinking about messing with 1click DVD Copy but I'm not sure that will help my cause. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
i used dvd shrink. come to think about it, i only did the theatrical version (didn't like the directors cut ending) but that was dvd5, so i figured the other side would be. If it is dvd9, compress with dvd shrink, then compress those files a little more so it will fit. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader Pioneer 107, Memorex 4X DVD-R, ritek g04 DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero[/small]
Ok ... just backed up directors cut of Butterfly effect. Also directors cut is 7.74GB and theatrical is 4.24 backed up using Shrink and burning w/ Decrypter. My target size for Shrink is 4300. Watching it now... _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Dell 8250, Pentium 4 2.80GHz 1.5 GB RDRAM, 200GB HD TDK 840G, Sony DDU-1612 DVD-ROM XP Pro, ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 Pro Gateway 450, Pentium III 450MHz 384 MB SDRAM, 160GB HD NEC 2100A, LiteOn LTD-163 DVD-ROM XP Pro, 16MB nVidia RIVA TNT[/small]
It's already compressed to the max (43.7%). I'm not sure if removing the AC3 2-channel stereo had any effect on the movie anyway. The movie played but the video quality was definitely affected. Maybe I'll just back up the theatrical side and call it good.
i wonder why the huge difference in size. the directors cut is not that much longer than the theatrical version.
Good question...I can only see about 7 minutes difference in the 2 versions. Yes bothe versions are on the same disk, it's a flipper disk. I haven't watched the theatrical version, is there a difference in vdieo quality between the two??? Guess I should investigate this more and see what is going on.
Casper66, Open Shrink, click edit then preferences. Change the target size to custom and enter 4300mb. This will make sure your not burning to the edge. Then when you open the disc, make sure the compression is set to auto. Are you re-authoring? Also I leave everything, the only thing that is unchecked is DTS 5.1 English.
I backed up the Director's cut side. When I put the movie in my player it asks you to choose Director's cut or Theatrical. They are both on that one side.
Wouldn't I want to keep the DTS 5.1 over the other audio streams or am I just not understanding the different audio streams? Does setting you burn limit to 4300 have any effect on the quality?
Huh ... wierd thing is when I first put my backup in, it asked Director's cut or Theatrical. Now it doesn't. But also is odd how Director's cut is soooo much bigger. Must have alot of extras.
I haven't noticed. Default for shrink is 4464 ... if you check some of the older shrink posts, Scuba Pete acutally sets his to 4279
Very true...which one would you consider to be more desirable. My player and receiver are both DTS enabled.
id say dolby is a better choice because even if you dont have a reciever, it will play in stereo. If you just have dts, you wont hear any sound if you dont have the right setup.
