DVD Burners are next to nothing now I have been using Toshiba in both desktop and notebook and never no problems. I know many love the Pioneer brand. No matter what brand of burner you buy Use Ridata or Verbatim Blank DVD's They are great!!!! You can also find great deals on your burner at pricewatch.com

I finally went with the Pioneer 108(or A08 for U Yanks..there are alot of different OEM brands for this model, so check you vendor first - reportedly a few people have gotten some third-party stuff from PIODATA, which uses different firmware. The AO8, which varies VERY slightly from the 108 isn't available in the UK as of last week, but they are practically identical. OEM by the way is a misnomer, it means the opposite of what its supposed to "Original Equipment Manufacturer", for those of u who didn't know. Despite that i've been burning happily for the past few weeks with Ritek Media, using DVD Shrink. I got a knocked down copy of DvdxCopy from the vendor however i didn't install it as there were a few reports of spyware that sent out data - and it didn't look as good as Shrink anyway which is very easy to use for burning .ISO images or Full Backups. I've also tested the media(4-5 movies so far) on my Dansai 1010 and Panasonic DVD players...no probs at all Vendor: http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/
I am not a pioneer fan primarily because with them you can not bitset dvd+r media to dvd-rom. I use only +r media due to the bitsetting advantage. As of now I'm useing a Lite-on SOHW-832S dvdrw, but will probably go with a NEC or Plextor next time around.
