Hi I'm a newbie so be gentle

I'm off to Australia in March to see my Brothers new born and also see the F1 in Melbourne.

I want a digital camcorder that can take good quality photos for the grandparents as well as a descent fps rate for the GP.

The ones I have seen only seem to be 1mp and I was hoping for better than that.

I have a budget of £400 and would like your expert opinions

There are many camcorders out there that can take photos at over 3 megapixels, which is good quality.

My Sony DCR-HC96 minDV tape Handycam takes pictures at 3.3 megapixels, and it can take widescreen pictures (16:9) or 4:3 pictures. You need to purchase a memory stick duo to take pictures.

On the video end, I am more than satisfied with the quality of the video. You just can't beat miniDV tape for quality.

The Handycam can take video in 16:9 or 4:3.
