can anyone recommend a firewall that's light on system resources?

I've used zonealarm in the past and the vdmon.exe process kills my system. Also tried the free kerio firewall and didn't like it much.

anyone suggest anything different?

i really don't know of anything lighter than ZA. are you positive that is what's choking your compie?

ok let me explain zone alarm requires windows xp only if you are trying to run it on win98 or 2000 will not work worth a darn

if you are running windows xp just turn on windows xp firewall there is no need to install a firewall if running windows xp

but you must be running service pack 2

 

Don't rely on the XP firewall if you have important data on your PC.

 

tabletpc, i'm finding a lot of your information inaccurate and your advice poor.

windows xp firewall is absolute trash. anything, even if it barely runs, is better.
