    Hi

Hope this is the correct forum....

For some reason my PC is not allowing me to burn to the DVD rewriter in either Nero (ver6) or Cyberlink PowerProducer (CPP).

Nero seems to thimk the drive is a CD drive when selecting location for burn whilst CPP says it cannot start its burn engine.

I have deduced that it must be something to do with the drivers installed for the drive, but windows only lets me choose from CD drives, even though it correctly identifies the drive as "DVDRW DRW-3S163"

I am losing sleep over this...any ideas to what I have done wrong PLEASE

Can Windows burn CD's ok when you drag and drop files to a cd?

Is it only when burning a DVD that the problem shows.
Does Nero Tools (info tool) show the capabilities of the drive.(It will get this information from the drives firmware, which indicates that the firmware is intact).

    Thanks for the reply.

    1. Will not write to CD or DVD. When no media is in the drive, drive is recorded as a DVD-RW Drive in my computer, but as soon as any blank media placed in drive this description changes to CD-Drive.

    2. Drive reads CD's and DVD's with no problem

    3. Nero Info tool shows the device as: Drive DVD+/- R/RW DL Recorder with firmware version BSG2 (date 2004.08.27), so this appears to me to be OK

    4. Your properties screen looks different to mine. I only have the following tabs : General ; Properties; DVD Region; Volumes; Driver. There is no Recording tab

From the drive casing, it was manufactured by LiteOn in Sept. 2004 and is model number DRW-3S163

    shows a later firmware version.

The image on my post is when you right click on the drive and select properties. Are we talking about the same thing, because a burner has to show a 'Recording' tab?
I have known cases where that tab disappeared causing problems.

You could try removing the device using this guide and let Windows reinstall it automatically on reboot:
