I have an external drive (see system specs below) and I've burned a few times with Decrypter and the burns have been fine. Not sure what that error message you got means; I've never gotten it. Hopefully some others can help you with that, but in any case, I don't think it has anything to do with having an external or internal burner.

Here is a post by LightningUK on the problem (author of Decrypter). DVD Decryter can have a problem with external burners. There are variables involved.

You may be out of luck with Decrypter until the problem is solved. Lightning UK is a member of the Doom9.org forum. They have a waiting period before you can post. Good luck.

You may have to ask your PC tech support about the I/O Interface used by your system.

    Very good post, brobear.

pensfire, I don't burn much with decrypter now, I like ripping in file mode and it only burns ISO. However, when I 1st started out I used it all the time with shrink and never had a problem using an external burner. No choice, it's all I have. lol

Not sure why it does with some and not with others. Hope you find a solution. You could always use another app. good luck...

Just passing along the words of LightningUK, the author of DVD Decrypter. I haven't seen any solutions for the SPTI I/O Interface for USB 2.0. Just seems some external burners just won't work and they haven't figured out why. Have you checked that link yet?

Another app may be his only hope.

Pretty good detective work veblin, come to think of it, I use force ASPI. May be why I had no problems.

If that is the case, looks like someone should tell the creator. BigO, why don't you run over to Doom9 and tell LightningUK about it? Never did hear if you went back to the site to look at the Links. ;D

Yep, I sent a PM. You better go, I went to the DV forum, joined and brought back all the info on the new shrink to AD and talked to Mr. shrink about retaining menu function. You saw where that got me. LOL

Yep, great suggestion and they won't talk to you now.

    Exactly!!!

It probably won't make any difference in what I'm using now anyway, especially without a menu. I don't see it beating RB/CCE or IC8 or DVDCopy 2.

It won't. I posted that I preferred the DVDCopy2 and Recode2 over the Shrink in that order. The new beta is good enough to compete with some of the retail though. Interesting item. They're now telling us the B picture compression setting in Quality Settings may cause some video problems. I haven't run into that one yet. The program is okay, but I have at least 2 that are better on my system.

If you're gonna count recode, make that 4! Speaking of(this probably isn't the place to ask, but I don't wanna start a new thread).

My last couple of times in recode, everything goes smooth til just before the end of the burn, then says burn failed, file size too large. I used custom from 3.8 to 4.36(and all in between), fit to DVD5, nothing works. This just started happening after the last update. You seen anything like that?

No. I have been meaning to update but hadn't gotten around to it yet. Maybe it's a good thing. Let me know what happens.
